Don't forget to check on your elderly and disabled friends of all ages that live alone during this outbreak. It is going to be even more challenging with the increased isolation and less structure to their days than before. And if they do get sick, they don't have anyone to take care of them. Thanks!

Hello friends,
After discussing with our Core Team, we have decided it would be prudent to cancel some of the upcoming Master Learners events in the best interest of all of us.
Master Learners Book Club - Monday, March 16th
Master Learners Program - Locus of Focus, Friday, March 20
Thirsty Thursday - Thursday, April 2

The Friday, April 17th Master Learners Program and the Arthouse Cinema and Film scheduled Friday, April 24th will remain in place until further notice.

Please do take all precaution as advised and take good care of yourselves and each other as we get through this challenge. We hope things will have calmed down in 2-3 weeks and look forward to resuming our exciting programs soon. Thank you.

Hello Master Learners!

First, we’d like to thank the nearly 90 of you who attended Ed Groth’s presentation about Air Traffic Control. I know we all learned a great deal from Ed’s talk which was greatly enhanced by his fascinating Power Point presentation. So much precision, control, coordination, teamwork, and intensity in air traffic control on a daily basis. And he LOVED his job! Thankfully, we have people like Ed who will do this stressful and difficult job and who keep us safe! Thanks for sharing it with us, Ed.

Next, thank you ALL for your generous donations to the SPC Food Pantry. We are making a difference in the lives of students that are homeless and food challenged students at SPC. Keep these students in your hearts.

Now, I want to mention Bill Boden’s Arthouse Film Series beginning February 14th. Bill announced this new venture to bring films to our area that don’t make it to our area or come and go much too quickly. You can go see the movie, “Parasite”, and follow up with a late Valentine’s Day lunch or an early dinner with your Valentine, best friend, or neighbor! These will be award-winning international and independent films that you may miss otherwise. Films and parking are free. However, please note the location of the Arthouse Film Series is NOT in the Library Building. You must go to the building with the large LA (Language Arts) on it. It’s a short walk from the Library, but it’s better to park in the southwest area of the campus. There will be signs directing you to Room LA151. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity!

Our new Core Team Member, Joan Marzi, announced the start-up of a Master Learners Book Club to begin Monday, February 17th, 6 - 8PM, to be held at Chopsticks Super Buffet, 2543 Countryside Blvd. Unit 1 in Clearwater. The Book Club will meet in their private room. Chopsticks offers Chinese, Sushi, and American Food. A good number of you signed up last week, but we want to give others who may not have been in attendance a chance to sign up. Please write to the e-mail listed below IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE NEW BOOK CLUB. It will be exciting to have a coed book club, somewhat of a rarity.

Also, e-mail us for the Volunteer Questionnaire so that we have as many volunteers as possible to help out and to help us learn of your interest in giving a presentation in the future. Thank you to those of you who signed up at the last event to volunteer and I promise we will be contacting you soon. Remember many hands make light work and lend a hand to keep things going smoothly.

Now, last but NOT least, our next Master Learners presentation, Friday, February 21st hosted by Michelle and Joe Menasce. John Schloder, former Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, will present: “Georgia O’Keefe, The Mother of American Modernism,” which will include an outstanding slide presentation. A discussion will follow along with Q&A’s. Refreshments will be offered. This presentation promises to be very special. Doors open at 12:30, presentation begins at 1PM. Program and parking are free, as always.
