George F. Young, Inc. is a 104-year young company focusing on future planning and growth. The team united at Collaborative Labs, where they began the day exchanging best practices and exploring opportunities. The Survey, Engineering, Utilities, Corporate, and Realty units then strategized for the year ahead, crafting action plans and refining personal priorities to drive their goals.
It was an incredibly productive day; if we had to describe it in one word, it'd be "galvanizing!"

Last week, the Collaborative Labs team went to Orlando to support the Florida Student Success Center's state-wide convening of colleges, school districts, and technical colleges as they focused on enhancing dual enrollment pathways and partnerships. We are thankful for our valued partners at The Florida College System and the Florida Department of Education for the continued opportunities to support your endeavors!

Tampa Bay's manufacturing industry is thriving, and we had the privilege of convening industry leaders from companies like Plasma-Therm, LLC, RAJE Technology Group, TSE Industries, Inc., and Custom Manufacturing & Engineering.
These visionaries gathered to discuss both short-term and long-term workforce needs, recognizing the importance of building a strong and skilled workforce for the future. Training and education providers keenly listened to their insights, and after three successful Collaborative Labs sessions, are now working on innovative strategies to bridge the gap and meet these needs head-on.
Together, they have shaped the future of Tampa Bay's manufacturing sector! Collaborative Labs thanks these partners for taking part in this valuable conversation!

Better Together! Collaborative Labs facilitated leaders from St. Petersburg College, University of South Florida, Hillsborough Community College, Pasco-Hernando State College, and the The University of Tampa to discuss Fueling the Talent Pipeline in the Tampa Bay area. With the common goal of better serving the community’s workforce, the “prosperity partners” developed ideas around working together to provide opportunities and economic prosperity to all!

Florida Department of Education (FDOE) and the State University System of Florida (SUS) convened college faculty from around the state to facilitate a review of 28 General Education courses at Collaborative Labs. Using a highly-organized format, faculty teams reviewed and created course descriptions with learning outcomes, that encompass both the necessary knowledge base and the requirements from the statutes. It involved many minds and moving parts! Collaborative Labs was proud and honored to support this important work for students and the state of Florida.

Did you know that the Collaborative Labs is part of St. Petersburg College? SPC is celebrating its 96th Anniversary today and the Collaborative Labs will be celebrating its 20 year Anniversary in this coming year!

Here are some fun facts about SPC:

SPC first offered classes on Sept. 12, 1927, and was Florida’s first two-year college

It was originally called St. Petersburg Junior College

SPC’s mascot is Titus the Titan

SPC has awarded more than 197,000 degrees since its founding

The St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus is SPC’s oldest campus

Gibbs Junior College is the all Black college that merged with SPC in 1965

SPC offers more than 200+ degree, certificate and transfer programs

St. Petersburg Junior College’s first graduation class was 48 students and half of the students received teaching certificates

SPC was the first state college in Florida to offer bachelor’s degrees

Bob Carroll, the creator and writer of “I Love Lucy” graduated from St. Petersburg College

Nicole Stott, retired NASA astronaut, is an alumna from St. Petersburg College

There are now more than 36,000 students at SPC

There are now 11 SPC learning sites located throughout Pinellas County

How about female welders?
The Department of Education (FDOE) brought Career and Technical Educators from around the state to Collaborative Labs to listen to the student voice and explore how institutions can reach “non-traditional students.” A highlight from the event was the student panel with female welding and phontonics students and male teaching and nursing students. We learned the importance of role models who resemble students and having individualized support systems in place. Armed with the student voice and data from FDOE, educators broke into teams to brainstorm solutions to address non-traditional student participation and success for these programs and their institutions.
We love the collaboration that happens when you bring folks in who are passionate about their mission. We look forward to seeing the expansion of these great career and technical programs across the state!

What is a Real-Time Record and why is it SO Amazing? Our clients have told us that the Real-time Record is invaluable to them and their team.
When you come to Collaborative Labs, we do the note taking so you can fully participate! Pinellas County Economic Development combined the “superpowers” of Collaborative Labs and TIP Strategies consulting firm to create an environment of innovative thinking!
TIP Strategies studied Pinellas County and developed some initial goals, which community leaders prioritized. The leaders also identified key areas in those goals, including mapping the economic ecosystem, funding redevelopment, and developing the local workforce.
We love when we can help in the process of bettering the needs of the community!

Planning for success is like building a bridge. On the far side is your goal, or where you want to be. To get there, you must cross the bridge. Each plank in the bridge is the tactic or action you will take to reach the other side.
When we take our clients through planning, we begin a road map that identifies a champion, the resources needed, and a start and end date for each tactic.
Here’s the great part of a road map…you can recalibrate it any time. The important thing is to remember that you want to reach that goal. So go ahead, step out on that bridge, and see where it leads you!

St. Petersburg College is saving the world! Is it an Earth-month coincidence? Stakeholders met at Collaborative Labs to discuss the reworked Corporate Social Responsibility course that will include sustainable business practices, innovative technology, and a stronger social/community focus. Not only did they generate an aggressive action plan to get it done on schedule, they practiced sustainability by bringing compostable and reusable serving ware! Happy Earth Day, everyone!
