I went to a shelter to get a dog and I saw this brindle laying on the hard ground. I made eye contact with him and he got up and he brought a tennis ball over. I asked to see him and I was told he was returned two times because he was too wild and cried all the time. When he was brought back to his cage he cried. It broke my heart. I told the man I wanted him. He told me I'd be sorry. When we got home I worked with him and changed things so he'd be comfortable. He has bad separation anxiety. Everything worked out. He's my pal. We play catch with tennis balls daily. His name is Popeye. 🤗❤

Thank you for dumping him...we found him tied up crying. After going to the vet, now we are going to OUR home! It was the first and last time he cried so much... From now on we will do everything to make him feel love, acceptance and joy!

Less than 3 weeks ago, I had to carry this dog out of Logan International airport because he was too scared to walk through the doors. He found himself in a new country, and after a long flight everything completely overwhelmed him. He shook all the way home in the car. When we got home, he would run out of the room every time we walked into it. When we tried to feed him, he would run away. He was terrified.

Considering his rough start in life, all of the above is understandable. Ripley is a galgo, (Spanish greyhound) one of the most persecuted dog breeds to have ever walked the planet. They are discarded by the tens of thousands annually (60,000 or more) when the hunting season ends in Spain. The lucky ones are dumped. The less fortunate are tortured or killed.

Ripley was found abandoned, living with his sister on a trash pile under a highway overpass. He was three months old, and was battling parvo. He had broken his toes, and I'm pretty sure that I see evidence of a significant hip injury that must have been sustained at a very young age. He was starving and scared. He was lucky to be found before parvo killed him.

It took a week for him to feel safe with us, and he finally started to let his guard down. Fast forward to today, and he is sassy, playful and joyous. He's leaning on his packmates for support and learning from them. He's gaining confidence by the day. He's still spooky, but we can see signs of that fading away.

We have adopted many dogs in the past 30 years, and this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of this dog lover's life. I won't take credit for his transformation. Instead, I want to recognize him for his courage and bravery. He is doing his best, and I love him for that.

I was a widow after 39 years.There was a giant hole in my heart and I decided I needed to fill it with a dog. I contacted rescue after rescue and none of them would even answer my emails. So, I started
haunting the local shelters.

The first dog I was up for, I missed out on.
That night I got a msg from a friend in Washington about a dog in a shelter here in Sacramento. Even though they didn’t open until noon, I was there at 10:30am.

They told me he was a project dog. He couldn't walk on a leash, he wasn't socialized, he wasn't trained at all. I wasn't sure, as a newly widowed woman, if I was ready for that.

But, when they came to take him away, he hid behind my legs- and I knew...

Meet Charlie Scissor-Tooth 🐶💕

This is Lucy… we just rescued her, and she is the glue that is helping me mend my broken heart, after losing my best buddy, Daisy Mae a month ago. Where Daisy was more if a diva, this girl is party central. I was so worried that I’d be disrespecting my Daisy girl…but I felt her nudge me towards Lucy… it’s hard to explain but I still feel her near! This little one is going to keep me on my toes!

You said he was a burden, that he held you back. Now, he sits in his kennel, food untouched, eyes reflecting the emptiness. Was it the walks you hated? The sloppy kisses? He waits by the door, tail thumping against the cold concrete. Hours turn to days, days to weeks. Still, he waits. His love, a silent plea for your return.

He doesn't deserve this. Think twice before bringing a furry friend home. Love is a lifetime commitment, not a disposable accessory.

I rescued these two Silver labs 3 months ago. Brooke and Brandi. Yesterday I had to put Brooke to sleep. We rushed her to the animal hospital at 1 am but after all the tests came back the vet said it was neurological. She was paralyzed and the muscles she used for breathing were being paralyzed also. They said there was nothing they could do for her. So at 3 am while I pet her and kissed her snout they gave her the medicine and she went to sleep. And I know she is running and playing and breathing easy now in heaven and I will see her again when I pass on. But right now I am heartbroken and they are not just dogs they're family. I had her cremated. I love and miss her very very much Thanks for listening...

He crossed the rainbow bridge 😭 He was 10 years old 😭

This is my dog Lucky. I will have had him for 16 years this June. I named him Lucky 15-1/2 years ago when I got him from the Forest County Humane Society because he was only there for 1 day when I adopted him. On Tuesday 1/23/24 I had to let him go. I am devastated but I know it was the best thing to do for him. He was just so wore out. Could someone please make me a picture of him going over the bridge with his wings. Thank you very much.

Farewell in love . This dog, named Greta, had arrived at the last day of her life at the age of 15 years and ended with a serious illness. The owner took them to the place where they both were happiest together. Her favorite beach. In her last hour, he caressed her fur and gently talked to her, told about her adventures together and how much he loved her, he did not leave her alone until her last breath on this world. This is how loyalty goes to a beloved animal until the end. ❤

"It broke my heart to see him so alone and confused. I suddenly saw his watery eyes as he looked into mine. So I barked with all my might and went after him, the following from house to house. Finally, I got close enough to touch his hand with my nose. The man smiled and I felt his cold heart begin to warm.
I moved closer to his face and felt his tears start to flow. I looked at him and he replied with a beautiful smile. I jumped into his lap excitedly, promising that I would be fine, that I would love him forever, and that I would never leave him. How lucky that he passed by where I was and that we could meet like that. I felt lucky too.
So many people have been there, but only he, only he, looked at me. I'm glad he made a choice and that I was able to save his life.
