East Coast Yoga Therapy
Welcome to East Coast Yoga Therapy, a joint venture of Terry Brown and Valerie Kiser.
We are an IAYT-accredited school that trains yoga teachers to become yoga therapists.
π§ββοΈβ¨ What an enlightening weekend at East Coast Yoga Therapy! π
Last weekend, our trainees completed Module 1 of our yoga therapist training. The weekend was a deep dive into the world of spinal health. Our participants engaged in an intensive study of yoga therapy applications for various spinal conditions, including lumbar and thoracic spine issues, scoliosis, and cervical spine health.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for this journey through the spine, neck, and trunk and to our instructors Valerie and Terry. Your passion for healing and wellness is what makes our community so special.
π§ββοΈβ¨ Capturing the Essence of Motion! β¨π§ββοΈ
Our aspiring yoga therapists had an incredible weekend of learning and growth! ππ During our time together, they delved into capturing range of motion and conducting manual muscle testing. ππ
Guided by experienced mentor Terry Brown, they honed their skills to better understand the subtle nuances of the human body. πͺπ
ECYT co-founder Valerie Kiser leads our yoga therapists in training through a gentle yoga therapy practice for chronic pain.

The colder weather brings the sniffles! This is a good time of year to boost your immune system with poses such as backbends. Co-founder of East Coast Yoga Therapy Terry Brown demonstrates Dwi Pada Viparita Dhandasana or Upward Facing Two-Foot Staff Pose. This therapeutic version uses a chair and bolster to help make the pose more accessible. It opens the chest, stimulating the thymus and the immune system.
Module 9 of our yoga therapy certification program is happening this weekend! This module focuses on business communication skills, medical terminology and the Yoga Sutras.
We take a deeper dive into the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, considered the authoritative text on yoga philosophy. Yoga Sutra 1.2 is one of the most famous sutras and answers the question of what is yoga?
What is one of your favorite Yoga Sutras?
It's that time of year when our bodies need immunity support! One pose that is very beneficial for the immune system is Setu Bandha Sarvangasana or Supported Bridge Pose. We love this variation demonstrated by East Coast Yoga Therapy co-founder Valerie Kiser using a bolster and blankets and with the legs belted.
Bridge pose opens the heart and lungs, improves blood circulation, stimulates the thyroid gland, and helps move lymph fluid which collect germs and brings them to the lymph nodes for filtering. Give this variation a try with your own body and your clients!
During this past weekend, our yoga therapists in training learned about trauma and various therapeutic yoga practices to help address trauma.
Our yoga therapy trainees completed another weekend module as part of our ECYT program. In this module, held Sept 15-18, we learned and applied yoga therapy practices for trauma.
We spent Sunday together online with discussing yoga philosophy including the teachings of Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita.
ECYT co-founder Valerie Kiser demonstrates a standing variation of of
