🤩Exciting news! Erin Doepke is a functional Nurse Practitioner who will be working out of our office!

📖She is board certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has twenty plus years in the medical field.

❤️We love that she specializes in functional medicine and shares many of Dr. Vaughan’s perspectives on health and wellness.

🚒 She and Dr. Vaughan have similar backgrounds being first responders — she is also a retired firefighter (Lieutenant!) and is a licensed paramedic (in addition to being a nurse practitioner).

👩🏼‍⚕️A little about Erin:
She discovered integrative/functional medicine when she had her own health issues that traditional medicine was unable to help her with. This led her down the path of root cause medicine and healing of the mind, body, and spirit. She genuinely enjoys the provider/patient relationship and strives to help all she encounters. As a Christian, she knows that the Lord designed our bodies for healing and that He, as the Great Physician, does not want us to live chronically ill. Through her faith and her expertise in functional medicine, she is well equipped to walk people’s wellness journey with them.
In her spare time, she enjoys anything outside in nature, being a mom and grandma, participating in church, and random DIY projects, though admittedly, she doesn’t finish most of those.

Did you know that 🧊ice🧊 isn't always the go-to remedy for every injury? We asked Dr. Vaughan his thoughts and here are some instances where you should avoid applying ice:

🤕 Headaches/Migraines: Ice can dull the sensation of headaches or migraines and can actually worsen symptoms because it causes restriction of blood flow. Instead, try holistic approaches like rest, relaxation techniques, acupuncture, or massage to find relief.

☀️ Sunburns: Applying ice directly to sunburned skin can worsen the damage. Contrary to popular belief, ice is not the answer to a burn. Opt for cool (not icy) water compresses, aloe vera gel, or soothing lotions specifically made for sunburn relief.

🔥 Thermal Burns: Minor skin burns, from boiling water, a hot surface on your stovetop, or steam from your iron, are best treated by gently cooling the affected area with cool (not icy) water for 10-20 minutes or until the heat dissipates. Ice can potentially worsen the burn and hinder the healing process. Ag*in, ice is not the answer to a burn. Cover minor burns with a cool compress.
