So you see a turtle crossing the road...

Remember if you do help turtles across the road, DON'T pick them up by their tail (that includes snapping turtles). If you don't want to touch the turtle use a floor mat from your car, a box, or something heavy duty to nicely move the turtle off the road.

DO pick up the turtle using both of your hands, one on each side of the shell, between the front and back legs.

If you don't feel safe touching the turtle you can use something else to move the turtle instead. (Floor mats in your car, a box, a shoe, etc.)

DO remember that a turtle's shell is living tissue
