Photo Nerd Section: Shot on location at the Majestic Steel facility near Cleveland OH using the Phase one XF100 provided by through 150mm F2.8 Schneider glass set to 1/60 F7.1 and ISO160. Todd was lit using the Profoto Pro-10 2400 AirTTL and lamp head pushed through a Profoto Magnum reflector that was modified using a 1/2 stop 8x8 silk flown far above camera left. Raking the silk with such a powerful light at distance had the directional nature of the magnum pulling double duty. It’s ability to be focused kept our subject brightly lit but it’s sweep has enough power to cast delicate yet dramatic shadows across the scene as a whole. I often like to use simple single lights in this way to keep the set nice and nimble. Which allows us to move quick and potentially even get a pickup shot between sets. Minimizing the cords, packs, mods and stands all make for a tidy day and in my opinion are rarely missed in the long run. Big thanks to Kevin Coyne for policing my brass and keeping everything tied down tight as well as Roger for constantly checking my focus and file management. This was a big shoot with lots of moving parts that we never really shared out… if you have any questions drop em in a comment below and I’ll get back to you as best I can!

Photo Nerd Section: Shot in with the 5D3 through the 85mm 1.2 at F10 1/160. Both the background and subject were lit from above with a single D1 2x3 soft box. Positioning both the subject and backdrop in relation to the strobe is key in order to have the single light pull double duty. Black sided V-Flats controlled our spill and my #2 provided a tiny bit of bounce to round everything out. #216

Sometimes you have an image in your head and no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to get there… this was NOT one of those times. Our model Maria Roush was kind enough to help bring this vision to life along with a host of other factors and artists. First off Maggie Kleinman slays it with hair and makeup, per usual. My assistant Dev Lynch knows how to work that bounce like a total boss after this one. No better location than and no better hosts than Merrick and Scott Wolstein. My homegirl Cassie came through with some incredible jewelry from IMG Jewelers, even though the necklace featured in this image is a custom piece from a private collection. Also gotta give a huge shout out to the moon for kindly blocking out 88% of the sunlight in this image…

Photo Nerd Section: Taken on location in Hunting Valley OH using a Canon 5Ds and the ZEISS Camera Lenses 85mm 1.4 Planar T at F2.8 1/800. A Profoto sun silver bounce softened the shadows created with only natural sunlight which was 88% obscured by the moon during the great American . #216
