A little bit different of a post than my usual, and it’s been quiet because our house has been hit with all the stuff going around, and other things life.

I traveled for a photoshoot last November on a Creuset to document a women’s retreat. It was my first cruise and I learned so much! Not just about cruises but how to work and bop around with my equipment. You are at the mercy of the cruise lights and not knowing what the outdoors will bring each day. How to travel lightly with equipment when going on and off the boat. All while making sure I do my very best to capture the essence of what’s it like to be a part of the retreat and cruise experience for these incredible women.

You really have to know what you are doing with light and how to adapt because it’s out of your control. I’ll share more on this later, and show some examples too! But for now, enjoy this scenery and dream of the warm days to come!

There has been a lot of loss and hard news these last couple of weeks. Friends who have lost family, our dear St Raphael’s community who has lost two incredible people far too soon.

Then sometimes you look out into the sky and can see them flying free.

We were on our way to the doctor, and my son Liam was shouting at me, give me your phone give me your phone! I need to take a picture of these clouds! Because he saw it. And what a beautiful reminder that they are still with us. 🕊️🦅

I wrote a blog post today, my first of the year. It’s something that has been on my mind. Above is just a small excerpt from it. The work I do for people means so much more than the shoot itself. I can’t wait for you to give it a read.

For all of you out there who just can’t wait to get outside during the evening golden hours, it’s coming.

As much as I love the longer days (they are by far my favorite) I still get out and shoot in the winter light, and with a flare of sun it’s even more beautiful! This was taken in our gorgeous after one of our first snowfalls.

You don’t have to match your clothing OR go out and spend a ton on new outfits for your next family session!

Here’s some of my biggest tips to when it comes to selecting outfits for family photos (and even branding!):

👉 Shop if you want, but the easiest is to start by coordinating your outfits with items you already have in your closet.

👉 Choose colors that are complimentary/lights & darks. Examples of color combinations are burnt orange & navy blue, maroon & hunter green or sage, mustard & plum- then throw in the neutrals (creams, browns, or blacks) to go with it, or coordinate with an all neutral palette.

👉 Patterns and textures are always a good idea!

✨ Whatever outfits you choose, make sure you are all comfortable!! Being able to move freely & easily is the best way to make sure we get the most authentic & beautiful images we can!
