“Property Inventory”
Photographing our environments and neighborhoods amplifies diverse perspectives and creates platforms for essential dialogues.
Photographers possess unique abilities to transform data, statistics, and the written word into informative pieces of art.
When aligned with a community focus, new standards of art and society can emerge. By empowering the creative intellect to tackle urban issues in ways that engineer impactful change, this becomes a reality.
“Property Inventory”
In 2023, the Western Reserve Land Conservancy completed an expansive initiative to assess conditions and gather data on the 160,000 parcels that comprise Cleveland’s total properties.
Through this work, many discoveries were made that shed light on various factors of the city’s past, management, and current conditions. Discoveries such as, and not limited to:
• 66.6% of structures in the City of Cleveland are occupied.
• 20.7% of parcels are vacant lots.
• 94% of occupied structures are in “A -Excellent” to “C - Fair” condition.
• 52% of vacant structures are in “D – Deteriorated” to “F – Hazardous” condition.
The unique, explorative voices of visual artists provide insightful ways to give narrative & context to the realities of communal life.
Through CPR’s Property Inventory project, photographers will lend their artistic, social, and place-based insights to the creation of new imagery.
Collectively, artists will give voice to citizens’ diverse experiences of their neighborhoods, generate impactful data regarding environmental conditions, and center the human element through the fusion of art and community.

Cleveland Print Room (CPR) is pleased to announce a year-long Photography and data visualization project centered on Cleveland’s built environment, partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. We invite photographers/artists to bring voice and narrative to a photographic inventory of Cleveland’s evolving urban landscape.
Deindustrialization, discriminatory lending practices, white flight, and varied other challenges have left Cleveland shrinking, disinvested, and littered with abandonment and blight. Neighborhoods have suffered greatly. Residents and leadership continue working to find a clear path forward.
As part of those efforts, the City’s Building & Housing Department partnered with Western Reserve Land Conservancy in an initiative to inventory 160,000 Cleveland properties to assess conditions, collect other critical data, and raise awareness.
CPR will commission a group of art and documentary photographers to conduct this inventory. Their charge will be to document the same parcels and neighborhoods represented in the previous inventory.
Selected photographers will participate in group critiques and workshops throughout the year, fostering growth and collective learning. Each selected photographer will receive approximately $8,000.
For full application details, guidelines and requirements, please visit the link in our bio. Artists 18+ years old are welcome to apply. We appreciate for their generous support.

What a show! 🎥 Maya Peroune’s film ”Black Is?” proved to be a compelling exploration of the dynamics of race, the education system, societal norms, and how they intersect.
During the post-show Q&A, the interviewer and fellow creative posed insightful questions regarding her inspirations behind the film and personal experiences with the topics discussed, and she hinted at the fact that she has no plans of slowing down.
Openly asking the tough questions is one thing. Seeking the answers through your art is another. We look forward to what has planned for the future! 📸

The program for the 48th Cleveland International Film Festival has been announced! Our partnered film, “Naked Ambition”, delves into the work of Bunny Yeager 📸
In the early 1950s came the rise of Bunny Yeager, who was not only a celebrated photographer for the early days of pin-up, but also a model.
Using her expertise both in front and behind the camera, Yeager trail-blazed a movement for an entire generation of women, and her impact can still be felt today.
Yeager fearlessly explored ambition and self-expression. Showcasing a wide array of her work through the years, Naked Ambition is a captivating documentary about the life and legacy of one of the biggest unsung heroes in the feminist movement.
