Opened in 1939, the Main Avenue (Burton Memorial) bridge marks one of Ohio's longest elevated structures at 8,000 feet.

The bridge was re-dedicated in 1986 to Harold Burton—a World War I veteran with a Purple Heart, and Cleveland's mayor when the structure opened.

Burton is also known for hiring Eliot Ness in 1935, who became the city's youngest-ever Director of Public Safety.

This proposed $20 million land bridge would connect pedestrians to Lake Erie and nearby attractions like the Cleveland Browns Stadium. What're your thoughts, Cleveland?

Ohio lawmakers propose $20 million for Cleveland land bridge connecting downtown to Lake Erie Ohio House lawmakers told News 5 Tuesday that the long-awaited pedestrian land bridge to connect the downtown area to Lake Erie would get $20 million in the proposed capital budget's one-time fund.

Bridge NS1, colloquially known as "The Iron Curtain," sits near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River as it runs into Lake Erie.

Built during the Cold War, the bridge replaced an older structure following a development project that widened the river in the 1940s.

The bridge spans 256 feet, standing 98 feet above the water. You might get an up-close view during your next cruise.

There's nothing like a golden hour photo of the city skyline from the Flats. Even better with this historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Bridge standing as a testament to Cleveland industrial history.

The bridge—known as a jackknife for the way its lever arm folds against the truss as it moves—was first built in 1906, then replaced in 1956.
