We are named the Kathleen E. We also have a program called coach to child mentoring.
The Kathleen E corker Youth Foundation is an inner-city, non-profit organization that is working for the youth in the field of the arts, for cheer and dance in our community. Corker Youth Foundation in great honor of our founders late grandmother who passed from heart failure, so the name of our team is called The Chosen Hearts. We one day would like to work with maybe the Cleveland Clinic on some
thing to do with heart failure are having some kind of program or just visiting participants who are in the hospitals with heart complications or something in that nature. We estimate that today there are about 25 children in our program that are passionate about Cheerleading, Hip Hop Dance, Praise Dance, and Drill Step Team. We also try to have performances and competitions for our children to go to so people in the city of Cleveland can see us show our talents that we have worked so hard on. What coach to child mentoring consist of is out of our five coaches, each child has picked one main coach to go to that they feel most comfortable with talking to if they have a problem or having a bad day at practice or if it is something is bothering them at home and the child needs to let someone know so they can learn how to handle the situation and better help their emotions. With our children, we check on their academic performance in school and we also offer tutoring as well. We practice every Saturday from 11:00AM to 5:30PM at the Stella Walsh Recreation Center on Broadway next to the old South High School. Every Saturday, we feed our children lunch who sometimes come to practice without a lunch. However it has become a challenge because we do not have the funds to continue this portion of our program on a weekly basis everything we are doing now is out of our pockets. We have five active and committed coaches who dedicate there time every Saturday to come in and teach our children. We want to get more children to join our program but we really have an issue with getting children from ages 10-17 to join from the area we are located in. We have printed flyers but we can only print but so many because we really cant afford the ink to print. We started a small fundraiser called a penny drive where each week the girls come in from home and put the pennies they have collected though out the week into our piggy bank. Our program is to reach The Greater Cleveland youth and keep them active so they can have something positive to do to express them self's through the arts. We really want to keep our children off the streets of Cleveland and stay educated and later grow and go to college and have a positive life. We have a lot of goals we want to achieve in our program for our youth but we really need the help!
