Rufus...11 month old who is taking applications thru Mercy's Door Pet Rescue Inc. . From his foster mom....We rescued Rufus from Cleveland Kennel due to he was hit by a car and a nice lady called the dog warden because she heard him crying in the woods for 2 days. He had a fracture his left hip and a broken right leg. After recovering for 3 months he is ready for a home. He is housebroken, crate trained, lives with other dogs and cats. Loves them. He is a little shy when you first meet him, but give him a treat and a ball and he's ur new friend. Knows sit and shake. Very smart young man. His foster mommy loves him dearly but has three other rescues. Any questions just ask. Fill out your application to meet this young handsome boy.

Marvin has been adopted! This little guy quickly stole our hearts and was a joy to have around. Here’s a little comparison to when he first arrived to now. He found a wonderful forever home and we are so excited to watch him continue to grow and thrive in their care!

Welcome Bubba our newest rescue we saved from Cleveland city shelter. This boy is approximately 1 yr old and as you can see he's had a rough life so far. He has severe demodex mange which he's being treated for. He's a big sweetheart with lots of love to give. Stay tuned for updates.

Special dog looking for a special home! ❤️

Sophie is still available for adoption. She’s the same sweet, playful, snuggly girl she has been since we pulled her, but she does have a new medical diagnosis.

She was diagnosed with Tricuspid Valve Disorder and Pulmonic Stenosis - both congenital. The cardiologist graded her heart murmur a 5/6, which is significantly worse than when she was pulled 8 months ago. Sophie has a severe obstruction of 178 mm of mercury (80 is needed to be classified as severe). Because of this her life expectancy will be reduced, and more clinical symptoms could become present as she ages. She is now on daily medication, will require regular follow ups with a cardiologist, and monitoring activity/play since bursts of activity can increase her risk of collapse.

We understand that her condition may limit homes that she may be suitable for, but we know her perfect place is out there! She is estimated to be around 3.5 years old, but that is just an educated guess. We cannot guarantee how much time you will have with Sophie. We cannot predict how her body will respond to changes over time, and if her treatment plan will need altered along the way. What we can tell you though is that Sophie is 100% worth the extra care and monitoring! Her foster always has great things to say about her. She loves showing off her tricks for people. She is well behaved in the home and enjoys taking walks. If you have a place in your heart for a girl whose heart isn’t perfect but will love you just the same - please consider Sophie! Our founder and Rufus were on New Day yesterday! ❤️ We are grateful to have had the opportunity to alert the community to these amazing dogs that need some additional care before they can find forever homes.

Rufus was supposed to be well on his way to recover after his first surgery, but a curve ball was thrown at him this week ☹️ He now needs an additional $2,500 surgery to remove his hind leg that did not heal properly. To be fully transparent, this unanticipated procedure has depleted our medical fund and has created an unfortunate chain of events. The funds for Marvin’s surgery (cherry eye and deciduous tooth extraction) and Sophie’s unexpected specialty care (cardiologist) are gone!

We need your help to rebuild our funds, and time is of the essence since Rufus is scheduled for amputation next Friday.

We appreciate everyone that has shared and donated so far! Rufus will be on New Day Cleveland (Fox 8) tomorrow morning! They’ll be on to spread the word about our medical cases that need some extra help.

Donations urgently needed! ‼️ Rufus went in for a recheck today, and it was determined that he now needs his leg amputated. This poor boy has been so patient with the healing process after his hip surgery and resting to heal his other leg. He will feel so much better without it, but we need your help since this additional $2,500 (estimate provided) procedure was not at all expected.

Marvin celebrated national puppy day making tons of new friends at Petsmarts national adoption weekend! This sweet boy is *almost* ready to find his forevers. New member alert 🚨 Say hello to Marvin the Martian aka Starvin Marvin

He came into the shelter this week and one look at his pathetic baby face (the last photo), we knew we had to help him. He’s already had one procedure for his poor little pr*****ed p***s, and will need another for his cherry eye. Plus, of course, some standard tlc and a little meat on his bony body. He has a glorious boxer underbite and ears that have not yet decided which way they want to go. Isn’t he precious?!

Anyway, we are so glad he’s here and that we could help TWO new pups this week thanks to foster homes and all of you. You make it possible for us to say yes to these sweeties. Thank you for helping us, help them!

They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery. And we want to honor and acknowledge this idea came from the Friends of Stark County Shelter Animals and AlterClinic Animal Care Stark county initiative. We hope more initiatives like this can be done in every county!

If you follow rescue at all, you know we are in crisis. There are too many great souls needing a second chance, and not enough homes. Most shelters have an inordinate amount (usually over 80%) of pit mixes. We love them, but we are a small, foster home based group. and only capable of helping so many. When we saw the brilliant idea for fixing pit mixes by Friends of Stark County, we decided to try to help our county! Only 1 in every 600 pit mixes born gets a forever home. We want to stop the cycle of overpopulation, and are starting with this small step to help prevent unwanted litters.

It is in that spirit that we are sponsoring THIRTY pitbulls to get fixed at Mission Possible Animal Hospital LLC for just $50 to the owner! We will cover the rest of their spay or neuter surgery. We realize this is a drop in the bucket, but it is a start. This is a project we are thrilled to enlist the S/N experts at Mission Possible Animal Hospital LLC to get it done!
