Mindful Driving

Our streets just became a little bit safer!

At our December 1st meeting, multiple neighbors shared their concerns about vehicles speeding down our streets.

Today, this digital radar speed sign was installed outside of 2110 Murray Hill Road. Simply reminding drivers when they’re speeding has been shown to change the way they drive, even miles down the road.

Thank you to local law enforcement for acting on our concerns: Cleveland Police, University Circle Police Department, and Case Western Reserve University Police Department. UCPD will also have officers conduct traffic and speed enforcement in the area on Murray Hill and nearby streets.

Awareness and participation is a powerful thing. You can enact the change you want to see in your neighborhood!

What Determines the Price of My Auto Insurance? What you drive and how you drive play a key role in determining auto insurance rates.

With the cooler temperatures, many people are starting to turn on the heat in their homes. You should have your HVAC system inspected and cleaned annually by a qualified professional. If you heat with gas, here’s some trouble signs you’ll want to be on the look-out for:
• Yellow or flickering burner flames. This is a sign that the gas combination in your furnace needs fixing and could indicate carbon monoxide.
• Rust on flue pipes or vent pipes. Another sign that carbon monoxide is not being vented correctly.
• Unexplained flu-like symptoms or chronic headaches. Even if your carbon monoxide alarm isn’t sounding, combustion gases could be leaking from the combustion chamber or your chimney or exhaust flue.

If you have any gas appliances (i.e. furnace, fireplace, stove, hot water tank, dryer), be sure to have 1 or more working carbon monoxide detectors.
• Test the detector monthly.
• Vacuum or dust the vents on the detector once or twice a year.
• Check the detector for an expiration date. Most only have a lifespan of 5-7 years, are not reliable after that, and must be replaced.
• Make sure everyone in the home knows the sound of an alerting carbon monoxide detector (continuously going off with a high-pitched sound) and what they should do – check the detector to see if it is giving a status (many have LED screens). If it’s detecting carbon monoxide and/or anyone in the home is experiencing flu-like symptoms, get outside to fresh air and call 911. We will come right out and measure the CO level in your home.
