An Announcement from Chef & Owner Karen Small:
We have some exciting news to share with you, our friends and customers.
I am profoundly grateful for the past 23 years at The Flying Fig. I am proud to have been part of this vibrant, ever-changing neighborhood. It has been our privilege to be your gathering place and to host you for celebrations and ordinary days knowing we were giving you our very best. Your appreciation of us is meaningful beyond words. I also have profound gratitude for the entire team here at The Fig who made this restaurant a local treasure, beloved by many.
I am thrilled to share some news with you. I will be partnering with Jill Davis, owner of Toast in Gordon Square, to open a new concept right here in this current space. Our new venture will reflect our shared commitment to support sustainable agriculture and it will suit the needs of a changing neighborhood.
Details on this new concept will be revealed shortly with an intended opening this summer.
I am also pleased to share that in late spring I'll be opening Juneberry Table, located nearby at 3900 Lorain Avenue. This is the all-day, breakfast-focused restaurant I announced just before the pandemic delayed our plans.
Our last day of service at The Flying Fig will be Saturday, February 26. Until then, we'll enjoy every moment and we look forward to seeing you!
Change doesn't always come easy but sometimes we all discover a voice inside urging us to take a different direction. For me, that time is now. And I hope you will join us on this new adventure.
Thank you for being part of our journey at The Flying Fig.

Our Story
The Flying Fig is located in the historic neighborhood of Ohio City just outside of downtown Cleveland. Perhaps its most noteworthy attribute, following the delicious locally-sourced meals for brunch, lunch, and dinner, is its atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its warm service and neighborhood-friendly environment. The Fig has become a place for folks to gather and come together over food and community. Staples of the impressive menu include seasonal meat and plant-based shareables and large plates, as well as an expansive and evolving wine and cocktail menu.
Founded by Owner and Executive Chef, Karen Small, The Flying Fig also operates a small neighborhood pantry next door called Market at the Fig. The Market offers artisan sandwiches, fresh breads, and local products like cheeses, cured meats, fresh eggs, and a well-curated retail wine selection. Together, the two storefronts create a contemporary European-inspired corner on a cobble-stoned street in Cleveland.
