Slavic Village Development
Slavic Village: an active, vibrant community benefiting from connectedness, opportunity and belonging.
After a four-year hiatus, Slavic Village Development’s Village Feast made its big return to Fleet Avenue & East 57th Street this past Sunday! After the tables are folded and the tents are packed away, we reflect on the success of the event and on the fact that many people across Cleveland and across the region were without power leading up to the event on Sunday, including so many of our residents. Village Feast brought us together during a difficult time when many of us, including Slavic Village Development, did not have power. This year, The Village Feast felt truly magical and reminded us what is possible when we work together. One of our goals with The Village Feast is to activate public spaces and to bring community together in it, to build connection, relationships, and to strengthen our neighborhood fabric. Our greatest asset is our people, and we are so glad to elevate all of you. Over 3 short hours, we had conversations with 400 of you, and we honestly cannot wait for the opportunity to host you all again! 💙
Thank you to Southeast Resource Center for hosting us the entire weekend as we got ready for the event. Thank you to Daisy's on Fleet for the perfect cookout idea on a hot summer day, especially Brittany & staff manning the grill. Thank you to Cleveland Metroparks for supporting our event with all of the tents we needed to keep everyone shaded and cool, Vic's Floral for our beautiful arrangements, and Councilwoman Maurer for all of your technical assistance. Thank you to our funders, Neighbor Up and Ohio Arts Council for your generosity! Because of you Village Feast was a huge success!

Cleveland is all in on climate action, but we need your help! This summer’s extreme heat, severe storms, and harmful algae blooms are a reminder that Cleveland cannot wait to address climate change. Tell us what you want to see in the City’s climate action plan. Visit https://buff.ly/3WO8zQN or call (216) 664-2455 for assistance.

Dinner AND a show?! The Village Feast offers delicious food and delightful entertainment from talented artists and performers. This is the first of several entertainment spotlights, featuring Fiercely Serene!
Fiercely Serene performances fuse elements of traditional and modern dance styles with circus traditions of prop manipulation and sideshow acts to create stunning visuals and exciting movement-based dance pieces, set to the soundtrack of Northeast Ohio. Most performances are non-choreographed, embracing the improvisational nature of flow dance and ensuring that every performance is unique and ephemeral. Performer Amanda Nyx enhances and brings focus to the listener’s experience of music, using dance to catch not only eyes, but also ears to foster greater awareness and appreciation for NE Ohio music.
I hope you like music, because this week's is all about the Hruby Music Conservatory!

A huge win for the Broadway/Slavic Village Community! The EPA grant awarded to Cuyahoga County will help reclaim and reuse a portion of Harvard Refuse, a closed landfill, and put it back to productive use. A portion of the Harvard Landfill that includes land in both Cleveland and Garfield Heights will be topped with solar panels to generate about 9 megawatts with a proposed goal to sell their power to Cleveland Public Power. SVD plans to support this project by assisting with community outreach and ensuring that our residents are kept up to date about all aspects of the development. Many congrats to Cuyahoga County & all of the many partners involved.

TRENDING: Industries all over Cleveland see that investments in creative talent and ability in new (and old) ways provide major benefits that far exceed a more traditional approach.
Here is a great example: “A main goal with the [Rooms to Let] storefront project was highlighting to developers that this area can be revitalized, having such a high volume of visitors from all over Northeast Ohio to see Slavic Village bright, alive and colorful with the interaction of artists and community …The aura of honoring artist autonomy and making space for artistic expression to do its job boldly is at the core of Rooms to Let.”
