I want to take a moment to congratulate our newest black belt. My son, Joey, tested in August while Sensei Thanh Nguyen was here and we had a belt ceremony last week before I left for Japan. It is always special when one of my students reaches this milestone but even more special when it is my own child. I’ve seen the trials and tribulations that Joey has faced throughout the years. I’ve witnessed his hard work, his defeat, his successes.
I’ve learned so much from him- as a father and as a teacher. Congratulations to my son! I am so proud of you!

With schools beginning to resume this week and next, we wanted to remind parents that people search for information through social media. We love seeing the kiddos excitement for school to start 😉 just be careful with the information you include.

Celebration Tournament 2024-

We’re so proud of our students that competed. Win or lose, the experience has made you stronger. It’s so important to push yourself outside of your comfort zone- that is where growth occurs!!

A huge thank you to everyone that helped make this tournament possible- the judges and table volunteers, our students that helped collect and transport everything, parent helpers, sibling helpers, spectators, concession donations (all proceeds to benefit Kids on the Go)- this event is only possible because of all of you!

Celebration Banquet highlights!

🤍students received Karate and/or Kobudo ranks, Excellence awards, and Senpai Program recognition🖤Mika Sorrentino and Sarah Itoh received their Sho Dan name belts
❤️we almost forgot to give our dear student Leigha Brown her 2nd Kyu rank, but luckily got it in at the end and she received a well deserved applause (I hate when mistakes are made because we try so hard to prevent them)
🤍Sensei Thanh Nguyen and Sensei Anthony Sorrentino spoke messages of encouragement
🖤the food was delicious (shout out to the Italian American Cultural Society)
❤️everyone looked so wonderful (242 attendees) 🤍we’re so grateful for the out of town Genbu-Kai instructors and members that joined us
🖤it was a beautiful night for family and friends to get together!!!

We’re working hard on the final details for our Celebration Weekend! We start it off tomorrow with our banquet. Wishing all who are traveling to Michigan a safe trip! See you soon!!!

After practicing karate for awhile, you will find that what you learn inside the dojo starts to blend in with your life outside the dojo and your life outside the dojo will eventually blend with your training inside the dojo. You will learn that karate is a way of life and the dojo is everywhere you go.

Registration forms are due this Saturday, July 27th. We have only 50 more seats available for our banquet so get your info in fast.

Out of town Genbu-Kai friends, if you cannot get your Banquet form in on time, please email us your final count for the banquet by this weekend.

Mark your calendar Genbu-Kai friends and family! Our annual Celebration Weekend will take place August 15-18, 2024 with special guest, Chief Instructor Thanh Nguyen.

We will open our weekend with a Celebration Banquet on Thursday. Karate and Kobudo seminars will be held on Friday and Sunday with our Celebration Tournament taking place on Saturday.

This is by far our most favorite weekend of the year. Friends travel from all over the USA to attend and our students always walk away with more knowledge and a great experience.
