Beginning June 10, the City of Clovis will be completing a major roadwork project on Temperance Avenue, which runs parallel to our hospital campus.

This project is expected to last through July and you may experience heavy traffic while trying to enter and exit the hospital campus during this time.

In 2021, Gary Hill underwent surgery to have a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implanted. An LVAD is used to help the heart pump oxygenated blood to the body when the heart isn't healthy enough to do so.

There are a variety of reasons that a patient might have an LVAD implanted, but in special cases, the LVAD works as a bridge to recovery while the heart heals. Gary was part of the just 1-2% of cases where his heart healed itself enough to have his device removed in 2024.

To mark this special and rare occasion, our team - including Dr. Shamsuddin Khwaja, Dr. Rohit Sundrani, and Dr. Richard Kiel - presented Gary and his wife with the encased LVAD.

We are proud to share that Clovis Community has been recognized by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center!

A Primary Stroke Center treats most cases of stroke and provides access to a skilled team of neurosurgery experts within two hours of arrival. Clovis Community is one of six Primary Stroke Centers in the Central Valley, and one of just three in the Fresno area.

“Achieving primary stroke center status at Clovis Community Medical Center will elevate stroke care to the next level, showcasing the dedication and teamwork of the entire staff,” said Dr. Mellekate Vishwas of Community Health Partners.
