Did you know... Wawa, Inc. actually began as an iron works! The company began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. In 1890, company owner George Wood moved to Delaware County, PA and took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, Pa, in 1902. The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and process. As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products. Neat connection, right?

Welcome Autumn! This October, you can take a self-guided walk-through the Luken's Historic District to enjoy the changing leaves against the industrial backdrop of the steel mills and ironmasters' homes.

Our outside sites are great for visitors looking to walk-through our complex. Outside exhibits include our 27-ton nuclear submarine sonarsphere, our Steelworkers’ Memorial featuring an 80-foot steel trident from the WTC, our Steam Locomotive and the charming exterior grounds of our ironmasters' homes. Did you know... We have two former steelmaking buildings on the grounds of the National Iron and Steel Museum. The rolling mill complex made steel in Coatesville from 1943 to 1983. Shown below is the interior of the motor house, which powered the 120" mill. Guided tours are offered Monday through Saturday at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3 p m. We hope to see you here!
