I know a few of the women who provided pieces for the anthology and I AM SO EXCITED for that published copy in my hand so I can connect with their expressions on the pages. Packing up to start a bit of a road trip later this week. Since we moved to Florida, I always get a little "meh" thinking about being away from home because we've finally been able to root somewhere (unlike our constant out-and-back travel lives before 2020). My "meh" started a couple weeks ago and is kicking in pretty strong at this point, as I load my laptop with files, create a pile of 10 books to take with me, and try to determine what I absolutely need (or don't need) to feel connected to my daily, weekly, monthly activities at home. Don't even get me started about packing clothes! 🤦‍♀️

Yet once we get to our first stop, I will be all in and ready for the adventure. Isn't it funny how psychology works in our brains and our bodies? I will probably have a few tears in my eyes for the first couple hours of driving toward Atlanta. I'll be pretty quiet in the car. Bob will wonder what is going on in my brain, which is usually not anything close to what he thinks it is 😂. Then there will be a point where I just settle in. I have no idea what causes the shift. Is it distance or mentality or time or anticipation of who we get to see at our first destination? But it happens now, every time we depart, regardless of how positively anticipatory the travel is expected to be.

In between gigs, we will get to visit with friends and family, which is an incredible blessing. We also have the generosity of fans who house us and sometimes even feed us. If you have ever bounced from place to place on the road, the gift of a home-cooked meal can feel more inviting than being a temporary customer at a roadside diner.

We always have a magical time on the road making memories that last a lifetime. Truly. We often said we should have journaled our experiences to publish a "life on the road" diary one day. It is really really hilarious when we pull off an exit for gas and I can recall another time - over the past 12 years - when we took that exact exit and stopped at that exact gas station or we stumble across a restaurant that we previously enjoyed (or did not so much enjoy!). The stories... are... endless. Usually, Bob and I just have each other to recall many of them. Reminders, memories, and inside jokes between us are as active as Grand Central Station!

So here I am starting the week of over-planning my calendar and trying to get in every task that I wanted to complete 3 months ago to convince myself that I can start the trip with more sensibility "this time". In truth, I know that most of the same tasks will be on my list when we return just before August begins and I will be so grateful for the adventures we are about to have.

I hope we see you on our travels so you can be in my memory bank. It is a reminder that the feeling of home can be carried and created wherever we go.
