SSAC puts art at the center of the conversation - even at the Massachusetts State House!

Art truly belongs in the public realm and it has the power to promote change. How fitting then that South Shore Art Center's guests filled the Senate Chambers and the Senate Gallery to celebrate our exhibition: 'Placemaking: Explore the South Shore'.

Many thanks to the scores of artists, board members, friends - and even members of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce - who made the trek to Boston for a beautiful reception hosted by Senator Patrick O'Connor. Special thanks to Greg Denton and Deb Woodman for walking us through the details.

South Shore Art Center is closing the gallery at 12:00pm today – November 16 – so staff can head to the Massachusetts State House for a special reception hosted by Senator Patrick O’Connor in honor of “Placemaking: Explore the South Shore.” We are thrilled to bring this exhibition to the Senate Gallery, and to inspire Massachusetts lawmakers with the voice and talent of South Shore artists.

Walking into our annual Small Works Exhibit is like falling into a kaleidoscope of endless color and shape! Come see why this show is loved by so many - it's on view in our Dillon Gallery thru December 16th and features brilliant works such as 'Herring Cove' by Moey Lane.

We’re thrilled to announce that we installed an exhibition at the Massachusetts State House yesterday!
Placemaking: Explore the South Shore, features works by artists living in the coastal communities represented by Senator Patrick O’Connor - Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell, Scituate and Weymouth - that capture distinctive spaces through both representational and abstract images.
Work shown is ‘Monarch’ by Marcia Ballou, silk thread hand-stitched on cotton.
This exhibition will be on view thru mid-December, opening reception details to follow

Kicking off a new season of Gallery Artist Spotlights with the fresh, innovative monotypes and collages of Larry Guilmette. The images Larry creates, such as 'PD III' are inspired by nature, history, ritual, tradition, spontaneity and daily observations. On view in our glass entryway for the month of October.
