Find time today to talk to your children about the storms of life, those events and situations that threaten and intimidate us. Discuss: When did you feel peace even in a difficult time? Children need to hear real-life stories that will nurture and strengthen their faith.
This National Good Neighbor Day, try to go out of your way to do something helpful or thoughtful for your neighbor. Here are ten ways to show your neighbors just how much they mean to you!
1. Knock on an older neighbor’s door and just say HELLO!
2. If you haven’t introduced yourself to neighbors today is your chance.
3. Bake some goodies and share them with your neighbors.
4. Invite your neighbors to your home for a meal or BBQ.
5. Ask a neighbor to join you on a walk around the neighborhood.
6. Help an older neighbor with a chore or a ride to an appointment.
7. Help out with yard work. Maybe your neighbor could use some help with their lawn, or getting their home ready for fall weather. Offer to lend a helping hand by mowing their lawn, raking their leaves, or pitching in with any other kind of clean up they need.
8. Bring them coffee from their favorite coffee shop. Maybe even throw in a muffin or donut.
9. Water their plants when they go on vacation.
10. Offer to pet-sit their animals if they plan on going away.
As a family read Mark 4:35-41. Discuss what kind of storms you have faced or are facing right now. Together explore how you can have peace during the storm. Remember, God may calm the storm around you, but more often He’ll calm the storm within you.
It’s Love Note Day! When was the last time you took out a piece of paper, a post-it note, or just a small notepad and wrote someone something special in your own handwriting? Don't miss your chance today to recognize the people that you love.
Leave some love notes around your home for your loved ones to find. Hide them in their lunch or their gym bag, stick the note to the bathroom mirror, so that's the first thing they see in the morning, or quietly slip it into their pockets before they leave home.
We must always cherish the words of our Lord Jesus, who taught, ‘Giving brings a far greater blessing than receiving’ (Acts 20:35) Go through the house, gather up the “junk.” Sell or donate some, throw the rest away. Got toys for older elementary in good shape? Donate to BCS Together for foster families!
Got a joke for us? Post it in the comments.

Miniature Golf Day provides you with the perfect excuse to get out there and play a game of miniature golf. Take your family to a local miniature golf course and have a fun-filled time. If you really love the game and have more than one course near you, then you can also spend your day visiting as many of these golf courses as possible. Don’t forget to share your photos in the comments.
One of Jesus’ names is PRINCE OF PEACE. What do you think it means? How can we practically “let the peace of Christ reign/rule in our hearts?” (Colossians 3:15).
Make homemade pizzas today.
Discuss as a family: When do you feel most at peace? When do you not feel at peace?
Today take a walk to the park, the beach, or to the jewelers, and collect some pretty looking rocks. Why, you ask? Because it is Collect Rocks Day. Here are some ways you can show your appreciation for rocks and their importance in our daily lives:
• Take a walk and collect different kinds of rocks - who knows you may just find a new fossil hiding in the rocks?
• Learn more about the different types of rocks so that you can identify the types of rocks you just collected.
• Not sure what to do with the rocks? What about painting on them and displaying them creatively?
With a limitless imagination and endless enthusiasm, there is no better author than a young child. Put their natural storytelling skills to paper with these two easy ways to write a story together today.
1) STORY JAR. Fill a jar up with small pieces of paper and big ideas. You can list three things, as in: “dragon, fireplace, child,” or put a starter sentence, i.e., “This is the story of how I lost my hat.” Have each person in the family create a short story from their draw.
2) REINVENT AN OLD FAVORITE. Take a classic that the kids love and have memorized down off the shelf and read the first page (or paragraph if it’s a chapter book). Instead of finishing the story as it is written, invent a new plot or ending to the tale.
Play a game of 20 QUESTIONS and teach your children the art of asking good questions, in a fun way.
