Lions Mane experiment final result. After 4 transfers, and different recipes, the plate is looking pretty good. This is going to grain tomorrow and I’ll be comparing the jars during colonization. Also going to be comparing them when they go to Masters Mix and fruit.

Been keeping track of all the data , this experiments been fun. Can’t wait to see the results, there may be a difference or not, I dunno but we’ll see 😃

Lions Mane Gourmet on Petri Dish experiment

This is 4 days of growth.

Two plates in the first couple of pics. Both have transfers from same plate, going to two different recipes. One recipe is the pr-mix from . The other is one I put together.

You can see the nice growth on Bas’ mix, so I chose that to do the transfers off of, to 3 different types of PDA recipes that had different additives…ie… yeast, peptone, or neither.

Sorry for the condensation, I think it might be good for the growth, to keep a little moisture in the dish. What do y’all think?

The best looking and fastest growing will go to grain and will be part of the “grain stage” of the experiment. Details of that in the post before this one.

Will be updating as the experiment progresses.

I’m gonna make some really nice dishes in the kitchen out of these! My mouths literally watering just thinking about it! I hear it tastes like seafood, that’s so awesome 🤤

Lions Mane - Gourmet Experiment

After many transfers and different recipes of agar, I picked the plates I liked the best, cut them into wedges and tossed em into some quart jars with Rye Berry grain that have been soaked in water and coffee.

Inoculated on morning of 3/3, so it has been 4 days. These pics are from right before posting.

I’m going to continue posting the progress of the experiment in future posts.

What I’m looking for is…

1 - How growth of mycelium on the plate affects time of colonization, using multiple agar recipes…as this will be the main source of nutrients during intital grain colonization.

2 - From these different agar/grain jars…I want to see colonization times on Masters Mix bags

3 - Compare the fruits and time it takes to grow in the recommended parameters..ie humidity, temp

Will be taking this to grain once colonized fully and putting it in a huge tub to grow it indoors. This gourmet grows on the ground, and I don’t have a backyard or front yard so….I want to eat these so it’s my only option.

Ever wonder what gourmet looks like on a plate?

This is the second transfer , original transfer from a LC syringe to a Petri dish

In the second pic, you see the number 1 plate….growth from LC syringe (approximately 4-6 drops)

Then the number 2 plate is the first transfer from the number 1 plate.

And the number 3 plate is the growth from the transfer from the number 2 plate.

Today, Katherine will be doing her first transfer!!!! That’s my wife 🥰 so she’s going to transfer from plate number 3 to new plates of different recipes and we will see what those look like in a couple weeks.

We’ll see if the Lion throws some ropes in this next round of experimenting.

These slants are used to back up your genetics for a long time. Depending on the recipe and where you store it, it can last from 1-2 years when you top it off with sterilized distilled water to the top and seal with the cap.

How It’s Made

Here are all the parts and pieces of the different stuffs and thangs that assemble into the Frooterz Liquid Culture Stirrer.

A little over two months in the making, and thanks to the healing power of mushrooms in mind body and soul… I managed to put this thing together.

Gourmet Liquid Culture Syringe Test/Experiment

I recently purchase a liquid culture syringe of a gourmet mushroom called King Strophoria after watching a video on Paul Stamets YouTube channel of him harvesting it from his garden and cooking it up in his kitchen, he chewed it up like it was orgasmic….SOLD!

So I purchased a syringe from Fresh from the Farm Fungi and noticed it appeared to be lacking the chumminess I usually see in syringes.

But I’ve heard and have been told a mix of things from fellow growers/mycologists. To sum that up, “only growth from the chunks would occur” …and… “growth is possible from the liquid that doesn’t appear to have mycelium”.

The picture is the results of a very basic experiment to test this out.

The plates are labeled

K+ definite chunks of mycelium hit the plate

K? Possible chunks

K 0/zero no chunks, was drops from the end of the syringe, with around 1ml left in it.

You can see from the pics, inoculated on 1/29, that today on February 2nd, there is growth on all plates. K+ having the most, K? having some, and K zero with less but def there.

MY CONCLUSION
is that even though a syringe isn’t completely filled with visible mycelium, the rest of the liquid contains mycelium that will indeed colonize your grain of choice or agar plate.

Put the rest into a few liquid culture jars of different recipes I made.

Will be posting those results in the future.

Looking forward to growing these in a huge tub and sharing the results as well as filling my belly 😊

MycoCoil Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hard not to have a biased review because I am a proud patron of his and support ‘s work fully. Love his dedication and the knowledge he shared and brings to the hobby and field of mycology.

That being said, my true review is, I Love having a coil to heat up my scalpel with to do transfers. It improves the workflow and saves a lot of time. I just finished 2 hours in front of the flow hood and it would have been more if I had to use a butane torch. Which def works, but if you can afford to get fancy, get fancy smancy!

What I really liked was the convenience of turning it on by using the pedal that sits on the floor and by pressing it with your foot it turns on the coil, pretty dope.

There’s other coils out there, and while I haven’t tried them, I have no doubt they are quality coils. I chose to roll with the MycoCoil because I admire Doma’s work and its one way I can support his past, present and continuing efforts.

So I definitely recommend getting a coil, period. And from any vendor you wish really. Supporting each other in this hobby is crucial to its survival and keeping the hobby where it belongs, with the myco peeps.

Still need to parafilm more plates, just taking a break and gonna get back at it here in a few.

Made 2 new recipes I haven’t seen done yet, that I think will be interesting to see the results of.

Lab Day 🔬

This agar is a special mix for swabbing spores 😃

So I just finished taking swabs of ummm gourmet, yeah that’s what happened, and I’m trying out the mix you see in the pic I got from Etsy store.

My initial review:

Tim’s store on Etsy was sold out. So I sent him a DM and in the same day he was able to accommodate my needs and put together a bag for me and updated his store. When he did that, he messaged me back that it was available and I jumped on it quick to make a purchase. Awesome customer service, thanks again Tim! Shipping was fast too. Will be updating in the future the results.

Side note, I went there by a recommendation from , thanks brother! I never knew that there was a mix that worked great for swabbing on. I appreciate you sharing that with me.

So I’m gonna get ready and wrap these up in parafilm and store em in some shoebox tubs in the dark. Any advice on a better way please comment below or message me 😊

Incubation Chamber

Growing out gourmet grain jars for the next grow of Pink Oysters and Chestnut !

Pretty soon we will be selling Gourmet Mushroom Grow Kits locally at the Famers Market and a neat little store called The Buzz.

Here is our setup for the incubation chamber we use for grain jars and Unicorn bags 🦄❤️‍🔥

It has a seedling mat placed on the bottom of tub and around one of the walls on the inside.

Temperature is set to 86 degrees Fahrenheit/30 degrees Celsius.

The mats heat up the inside of the tub that is kept wrapped up in a thick blanket to keep the heat in.

The mats are hooked up to an Inkbird Temp Controller to turn it on and off automatically.

Excited to do our first grow of Chestnut Gourmet Mushrooms 🍄 🥳🎉
