We Are Black Forest – Black Forest Festival 2020 08/14/2020

Black Forest Community Hosting “Black Forest Days” from August 14th – 16th
Black Forest Days provides three days of fun for the community, with events carefully constructed to meet government mandates and CDC guidelines for COVID-19.

It is almost time for Black Forest Days with three days of fun from Friday, August 14th to Sunday, August 16th! Black Forest Days is taking place instead of the Black Forest Festival this year.

Activities include a Biergarten Stroll on Friday, August 14th. On Saturday, August 15th we are hosting a modified “reverse” parade and an expanded Backyard Farmers Market with an adjacent food truck rally and picnic area space available (outside of the market). On Sunday, August 16th, you can enjoy the Pancake Picnic Breakfast with a new drive-thru option.

We are disappointed that the Black Forest Festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19 - the Black Forest Festival is a long-standing tradition in the Black Forest Community. However, the Black Forest Community is grounded in the spirit of tenacity and ingenuity and we are pleased that we can still host several community-focused events through Black Forest Days.

The events of Black Forest Days 2020 look entirely different from events that have taken place in the past. We would like to provide some information on how the events will run and what steps have been taken to keep our community members safe considering COVID-19.

Black Forest Biergarten Stroll, Friday, August 14th at 5:00pm and 7:10pm
The traditional Black Forest Biergarten has been modified into more of a pub crawl and will take place in two sessions. The first session runs from 5:00pm – 6:50pm and the second session runs from 7:10pm – 9:00pm.

Each session of the Biergarten Stroll will start at the Black Forest Community Center and guests will receive their wristband and tickets. Attendees will be divided into groups of no more than 16 people; the groups then “stroll” to several different Black Forest businesses and turn in their tickets for a taste of local food and drinks. A careful count will be taken of total number of people in each activity area and maximum density will be enforced in accordance with government mandates.

All participating businesses will be in the immediate area of the corners of Black Forest and Shoup roads, so attendees can walk to each location. Each restaurant will host attendees in an outdoor space with socially distanced seating. Masks are required except when seated for food service (per Executive Order D 2020 138 and per 8th Amended PHO 20-28 Section I H Para 4). Each venue will be cleaned between groups.
We are so excited to announce the participating businesses including the Black Forest Meadery, the Black Forest Brewery, the Black Forest Bistro, Rocky Mountain Brewery, Black Forest Pies & Grinders, and the Rolling Bean food truck. Finally, we can all look forward to safely enjoying live music by the award winning Wirewood Station band! Rizuto’s ice cream truck will be adjacent to the Biergarten area with ice cream available for purchase by community members as well as Biergarten Stroll patrons. What a great line-up of local businesses and talent!

Wristbands for the Black Forest Biergarten Stroll are $30 each and include 4 food tickets and 4 drink tickets plus a souvenir item. There is an extremely limited number of tickets available. Tickets went on sale to the public on Tuesday, August 11th and more than half of the tickets were sold in less than 24-hours. Tickets must be purchased in advance on Eventbrite.

Visit www.WeAreBlackForest.com/biergarten to learn more or to find the link to purchase your tickets on Eventbrite.

The 2020 Black Forest Biergarten Stroll will be a great time to get out and have some fun while supporting local Black Forest businesses.

Backyard Farmers Market, Saturday, August 15th from 9:00am – 1:00pm
Located on the northwest side of the Black Forest Community Center is an area commonly referred to as the "Backyard". When the idea came about to start a farmer’s market, members of the community knew it would be the perfect spot. The developers of the market thought the name “Backyard Market” symbolized the smaller community feel of the Black Forest.

The mission of the Backyard Market is to support a healthier community by providing an opportunity for local farmers, food producers, artisans, and crafters to sell their products directly to the consumer in an educational, friendly, and community-oriented environment.

The Backyard Market has grown to be one of the top farmers markets in the state of Colorado. The Market adheres to extremely strict COVD-19 mandates including one-way traffic, social distancing, and no product sampling on-site. Masks or face shields are required for entrance to the Backyard Market.

Originally, there was not a Backyard Market planned for Saturday, August 15th due to the Black Forest Festival taking place in that space. We are so pleased to have the Backyard Market open on Saturday, August 15th as part of Black Forest Days. Adjacent to the market will be a food truck rally offering takeout for home or a family picnic in the nearby Log School Park.

Reverse Parade, Saturday, August 15th at 10:30am
Join us for Black Forest’s very first Reverse Parade. In a Reverse Parade, the Parade Exhibits are stationary and socially distanced, and the “spectators” remain in their personal vehicles and slowly drive past the exhibits.

The parade will run east down Shoup Rd, beginning at Rusk Road (near La Foret) and ending just west of the businesses at Black Forest Road. The parade will showcase many local businesses, community groups, and services that are central to the Black Forest community.

Spectators that are staying in their vehicles and driving through the parade can line up at Shoup and Rusk; the line will extend down Shoup and Holmes. The first 100 spectator’s cars will receive a parade swag bag filled with lots of goodies! Volunteer staff with masks and gloves will deliver these swag bags to the car windows.

Pancake Picnic Breakfast, Sunday, August 16th from 8:00am to 12:00pm
We are so excited to partner with the Boy Scouts Troop 70 and the R&R Coffee Café to offer a Pancake Picnic Breakfast and Fundraiser. The breakfast is now taking place outdoors due to social distancing and will offer a drive-thru option for the first time.

If you choose to stay and picnic at the Black Forest Community Center, tickets are purchased in a socially distanced line, and the breakfast is delivered in individually packaged containers. Inside the containers, you will find pancakes, eggs, and sausage, along with syrup and utensils. Coffee and orange juice are also available pre-poured in cups with lids. Seating will be provided at socially distanced tables or each household can bring their own blankets and chairs. Masks are required except when seated.

If you opt for the new drive-thru option, you simply pay for your ticket from your personal vehicle and your individually packaged food is delivered to your vehicle. Again, volunteer staff will be donning masks and gloves.

Tickets are $4 for ages 3-12 and $6 for ages 13 and up. What a great deal for a fantastic breakfast picnic! Any proceeds from the Pancake Picnic Breakfast go toward the Black Forest Community Center roof fund. Let’s all get out on Sunday and eat some pancakes and help raise the roof for the Community Center!

We hope to see everyone during Black Forest Days from Friday, August 14th to Sunday, August 16th.

We also need volunteers to help the day of the festival. Please take a moment to learn about the volunteer needs and decide if you can contribute.

"We're working on your great ideas from an earlier post! For starters the Community Center will host a Mardi Gras "meet and greet" community pot luck on Feb 29 at 6 pm. There will be a live Dixieland Band, beads, masks, floats (okay, we can pull off root beer floats at least!). Just need to bring yourselves, family, friends and cajun style potluck dishes. Is there anything else you'd like to add to this evening? Maybe costumes (optional) and a grapevine style dance parade?"

Let us know any thoughts or ideas.

Thanks again!!

Thank you to those that responded and have voiced their hearts desires for our community. It was a great meeting and we appreciate all of you that took the time to participate and those that left comments in Next Door and the BF Community FB page.

There were some great ideas that were shared such as a, Farmers Market, Bingo, Dances, & Movie Nights, these are just to name a few. With that said, we will be working to incorporate these ideas in to the monthly events that are hosted @ the Community Club and working with others to host special events.

Again, we need volunteers we cannot do this without your help and support we need YOU! Please let us know if you are able to help in any capacity.
