Two wedding weekends in a row I tried something completely new to me. I’m feeling on top of the world 🥰
Absolutely loved and wedding. I’ve been scoring recently with the absolute best couples a photographer could ask for.
And working with is a revelation. He’s so ridiculously good I’m blown away every time he drops new work.

For me this first image has been something like 7-10 years in the making. I don’t remember exactly when it was, but having entered the wedding photography industry and being exceedingly young and hungry I found ’s work and through the internet aether somehow found my way to corner of the web. I’m not familiar with the relationship between the two of you guys but I could clearly see what I interpreted as influence of Jeff’s work on what sam was producing. And given that I was enamored with sam’s work I started stalking Jeff. And thats when I came across the technique that inspired this image. Something I had never seen before. Now for context here, the thing that drew me to wedding photography to begin with was the allure of seeing an image I couldn’t fathom the creation of. Early on it was seeing off camera flash and being enthralled by a beautiful exposed sky with a highlighted and perfectly lit subject. this type of curiosity I would say is obviously what drew me to sam’s work seeing what we now now (and im pretty sure sam coined) as things like prisming, lens chimping, and the ring of fire. My take on dark & moody… it’s amazing to me how people want to categorize entire portfolios or bodies of work into just a couple words. Like when people call other photographers “light and airy” or “dark and moody” or “true to life.” To me these are words that describe certain circumstances where the light would serve a certain look in a certain context. I’ve watched light and airy photographers break out their flashes for timeless “paparazzi-like” reception photos. We use the techniques and the camera settings that serve the moment.
I don’t really see this as a hot take, and I don’t mean to offend someone if they consider themselves as one or the other. But to me, weddings, families and life itself are things that are far to diverse in their color, mood, emotion and light to be shoe horned in one direction or another. We’re photographers. We capture moments, hopefully these moments are well lit, or creatively lit, or something else we have yet to see because someone comes up with something crazy. But that’s the art man. Light is a tool. Yes we can bend the light to our will in many cases. But sometimes we have to bend to the moment and maybe that moment in that certain place demands something dark and it’s time sensitive. Idk who im talking to. But this has come up in conversation more for me in the past month than normal. So that’s it. That’s my oversimplified take. Now yell at me in the comments..

This wedding was one of those that was more than I could have hoped to have asked for for my “technically” first Colorado wedding as a native to the area. The couple, the guests, the vendors. I made so many friends and got to experience a wedding that’s a massive reminder as to why I love doing this.

The dichotomy of shooting in a place like a cultural arts facility contested by a mountain backdrop rounds out a cohesive session to me.
