It’s farmers market season! I hope to see you at any of the five markets I’ll be at this summer!
The summer farmers market season kicks off this Saturday with the Backyard Market in Black Forest! We will have our portable roaster on site and a selection of bagged coffees available.
After that, we hope to see you at four other markets throughout the Pikes Peak Region:
Colorado Farm and Art Market on Wednesday nights starting June 12
Backyard Market at Park Union on Thursday night (coffee roasting + coffee bar!) starting June 20, plus this market is open every Sunday now!
Woodland Park Farmers Market every other Friday starting June 14.
As for our Black Forest roasterie location, it’s been a sloooooow process. Watch for some news about that soon!
Did someone say coffee???
It’s time for coffee and soooooo much more at the Backyard Market in Black Forest’s Spring Market at Wolford Elementary! We’re here til 3! See you soon
As you may know, I’ve been a proponent of the Square Point of Sale system for quite a few years. I can honestly say that this software helped me grow the shop in ways I hadn’t thought imaginable. Well, they reached out to me a few weeks back about the demise of R&R and what was next. It was quite helpful for me to get to talk about the experience and how it looks from the entrepreneur’s viewpoint. If you have a spare few minutes to listen….

Today would have been our 16th anniversary. Scary, huh?
I’d just like to take this time to say thank you yet again. It still amazes me how much the Black Forest community embraced my store and how much excitement there was when I announced the new roasterie space. It means a lot to me.
🌲☕️❤️
For the roasterie, things are progressing… slowly. There were some snags with the health department that we are ironing out. It’s looking like for the time being I won’t be able to have the coffee bar side open, just the roasting operations. I’ll still have a popup bar at Backyard Market at Park Union, plus I’ll have bagged coffees available at the Backyard Market in Black Forest and various retailers in the forest.
Be sure to like the Golden Pine Coffee Roasters FB page for all the latest! If you’d like to pick up a bag or two of coffee from our website, I wouldn’t mind either. 😜
I thought I’d break out a picture from March 2008, right before we opened. Enjoy the trip down memory lane! Happy sipping, my friends!
Hey Black Forest! How’s your coffee stash? I’m set up at the Backyard Market in Black Forest’s Spring Market at Wolford Elementary until 3 today. Drop by, say hi, hit the food trucks, and check out all the vendors! See you soon
See you this weekend at both markets!
It’s time to say hi to Black Forest again at the Backyard Market in Black Forest’s first Spring Market, 10-3 this Saturday at Wolford Elementary. I’ll be there with bagged coffees and would love to see all of you. There are many other vendors, too: be sure to say hi to all of them!
Jonesin’ for that Caramel Happiness? We have our popup coffee bar every Sunday at the Backyard Market at Park Union downtown at the Meanwhile Block.
The latest Side Dish by Matt Schniper has a little teaser about what’s happening with R&R (sad face) and Golden Pine Coffee Roasters. Check it out, and thank you, Matt!

Bar design finalized. Now to get the health department to agree with me.
I want to set some expectations right off the bat: our new space will be a roasterie and coffee bar only. There isn’t room for any type of food service. It will be named Golden Pine Coffee Roasters. In time, I will only post on our roasterie FB page, so I recommend liking it!
This key signifies the next step for coffee in Black Forest.
This key signifies the next step in me getting back to what I truly love to do.
This key signifies the next step.
Stay tuned!
Don’t forget: tomorrow is our Your New Espresso Machine workshop! If you got a machine for Christmas or want to hone your skills, bring you, your machine, and your grinder down to Backyard Market at Park Union from 11-1 and we will help you pull amazing shots. See you there!

Roasting and serving espresso drinks at the Backyard Market at Park Union until 2!
Two quick tidbits to temporarily quench your R&R cravings…
-The amazing ladies at Backyard Market at Park Union have offered us the opportunity to be the coffee provider every Sunday going forward! So yes, you can now get your R&R fix every Sunday 10-2 downtown! Please be sure to visit the other vendors and make a day of it. I’m working on getting the online store and app synced up with the new location.
-With R&R starting to kinda sorta become a thing again, I’ve spun off the roasterie to its own page. Please follow Golden Pine Coffee Roasters for all things coffee and roasting and caffeine related nonsense. IG and Threads pages will be along shortly as well.
It feels good to be back slinging coffee, that’s for sure. See you Sunday!
We have a special treat at the Backyard Market at Park Union makers market today! We have a guest appearance from E3 and a full espresso bar ready to caffeinate you. See you soon!

Yes the Great Coffee Grab is still going: buy 4 bags of coffee, get the 5th on me.
It’s that time of year again.
Yeah, we’re still in a Pending state with our new store. I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet though. More on that in a bit…
But for now it is the Holiday Season, which can only mean one thing:
The Holiday Coffee Grab is back!
Buy four bags of coffee, get the fifth on me. When you order online, simply add 5 or more bags to your order and the discount will automatically be applied.
Thinking of shipping gifts? Please order by December 13 to ensure your order arrives in time for Christmas.
In person pickup
We have four events scheduled if you want to pick up your coffee in person:
-A Very Merry Downtown Market December 2 10:00-6:00 and December 3 10:00-3:00 at the Backyard Market at Park Union, 108 W Cimarron. We will be roasting on site and selling bagged coffees and gift baskets
-A Black Forest Christmas December 2 3:00-6:00 at the Black Forest Community Center. We will be serving coffee, espresso drinks, and hot chocolate for the annual tree lighting

Plus, we are a vendor at the Park Union Year Round Makers Market every Sunday 10:00-2:00 at 108 W Cimarron St. We usually are roasting on site and selling bagged coffees, but every now and then we set up or espresso bar.
The long delay in reopening R&R has definitely been unexpected, but I still believe we can make a go of it. Currently we are negotiating for a spot on the northern edge of Colorado Springs. It’s about 20 minutes away from the forest. I promise I’ll keep you updated as I know more. Thank you for hanging in there with us! It’ll be great to see all your smiling faces again! -Ryan
New coffee alert! This Papua New Guinea natural processed treat boasts a lot of plum, baking spices, and cranberry in the tasting notes. It’s a part of our Holiday Blend this year (which is now available too!), but it stands on its own quite well.
Available at the Backyard Market at Park Union today until 2 or online at our roasterie website gpr.coffee .
Happy sipping!
A question I get asked often is how I’m able to pick out all the flavor characteristics in a cup of coffee. “It all just tastes like coffee to me.”
So how can you train your palate? Easy. Visit your local farmers market. Pick up some variations on an item. Be it different varieties of apples or different styles of sourdough or anything that is the same but different.
Then consciously *taste* what you got. Don’t just ingest it. Think about what made the bite of Granny Smith taste different than that Fuji apple. How a longer fermentation on the sourdough loaf from one baker makes a different flavor than another baker’s style.
In time you’ll start to pick out varying flavors that you normally wouldn’t taste. And now your palate is growing.
So where is a great year round market so you can sink your teeth into palate development? Head downtown to the Backyard Market at Park Union and say hi to all of us!
We have our Holiday Blend! We have bagged coffees! We have gift boxes! We have matching hoodies! And we’re at the Backyard Market in Black Forest’s Holiday Market until 3 today.
Those of you who know me know that when I start talking about coffee it’s hard for me to stop. It goes so far beyond a morning wakey wakey juice, and part of the thrill for me is exploring the hows and whys of great coffee.
This Sunday at the Backyard Market at Park Union I’ll be chatting up coffee in my Coffee 101 workshop. You should drop by, chat about coffee, drink coffee, and say hi to me and all the amazing vendors.
Happy to be roasting coffee at the Backyard Market at Park Union today! Come say hi and visit all the amazing vendors: you’ll be happy you did. ☕️❤️
Happy to be back slinging coffee! ☕️❤️ Coming to the Trunk or Treat at the community center? Be sure to drop by and say hi!
This Saturday is the last Backyard Market for the season. So what's next for us? Quite a bit, actually...
Golden Pine Coffee Roasters is still going strong!
Our mini-me roaster is still chugging along! We've also updated the roasterie website to include Subscription coffees (available via shipping only!), Workshop reservations, and the preorder of this year's Holiday Blend!
We will also have the Firehouse on the Run, Honey Tea & Me, the Black Forest Post Office, Sparrow Hawk Cookware, and the Eclectic Co restocked with bagged coffees by the end of the week. Plus, Mountain View Cafe is still pouring the Forest Mist Blend with your breakfast!
We also will be at the YEAR ROUND Park Union Market downtown every Sunday starting November 5. It'll be indoors from 10-2.
Also, we are proud to be a vendor at the Backyard Holiday Markets this year. We will have some pretty neat goodies available for your coffee fanatic on your gift list.
So what about R&R???
It's...... in progress. I am working hard on reopening before the end of the year at a spot close to the Forest. I'm confident the new landlord and I will come to a mutually beneficial agreement soon, then it's just the matter of installing the big roaster, getting the team up to speed, and saying HI! to all of you. Will it be the old R&R of yore? No, but I'm confident you'll like the new us.
For the time being, if you're jonesin' for a latte, mocha, or a fancy drink, I invite you to the Black Forest Community Club's Trunk or Treat on Saturday the 28th at 3:00. We will have a coffee bar popup!
I'm not done yet with the R&R concept, and I cannot express my gratitude for all of you who continue to buy the bags of coffee. Don't write me off quite yet! -Ryan
