You may have noticed many non-profits in our area promoting today; the annual day of on-line philanthropy here in the Midlands. One organization that's dear to us is Camp Cole. We were honored to be selected to complete the HVAC work for their "unique, fully accessible camp and retreat facility for all people, but with a particular heart to help people who might be dealing with serious illness or a disability."

Camp Cole has a medical facility and conference center. The HVAC is driven by a VRF (variable refrigerant flow) system which is a two-pipe heat recovery system that simultaneously heats and cools different zones within the building. The system provides an energy efficient approach and a small footprint along with quiet operating levels. New 42,000 SF concrete tilt-panel and steel framed medical office building for East Cooper Medical Center. The medical practices in the facility include physician practices with a focus on women’s services and orthopedic services, as well as outpatient physical therapy and laboratory services. Bryan Hospital : Morris Village

📍COLUMBIA • SOUTH CAROLINA

On this project, we replaced existing chilled water system with two 1200 ton packaged semi-hermetic centrifugal water-cooled chillers, along with two 200 hp variable flow primary pumps using new 12” chilled water and condenser water piping.

Associated electrical service was upgraded to include a 1500 KVA transformer, switchboards, and new lighting fixtures throughout. General construction was comprised of steel er****on, concrete work, overhead roll up doors, galvanized fence, and epoxy floor painting. Direct digital controls were utilized on the new HVAC system, complete with refrigerant monitors and emergency centrifugal exhaust fan. Plumbing upgrades included make up water metering and an emergency eyewash station.

Student Health Center, on the University of South Carolina
📍 Columbia, SC

The 68,000 square foot steel framed building is a mix of exterior cladding including brick and glass. W.O. Blackstone’s scope included distribution ductwork, a VAV Zone system, general building exhaust, controls, fan coil units and mini –splits. The project included an underground vault & piping to connect to the University’s central energy system to included chilled water, hot water & steam piping system. The building is conditioned by means of two hydronic 31,050 CFM air handling units set at the penthouse.

Take a look at the renovation project we completed for the 128,000 square foot Seibels Bruce Building. The original building was constructed in 1949 with an addition in 1977. The renovation project was undertaken as the building was occupied and the project was phased with coordination between the owner, the architect and project team.

HVAC scope included chilled water plant consisting of (2) air cooled chillers, pumping system, and air control system. Heating water plant consisting of (2) natural gas boilers, pumping system, and air control system. Air delivery system consists of AHUs with chilled and heating water coils, VAV boxes, MP ductwork, LP ductwork including air distribution, and return ductwork. The Terminix project was a new 52,000 SF, 2-story corporate office building on a tight construction site. The building has a large training area, private offices and open work stations, multiple conference rooms, break rooms and a mail room. The HVAC scope is a VRF system which is a multi-split type air conditioner for commercial buildings that uses a variable refrigerant flow to provide comfort control. Condensing units are roof mounted with associated piping and control wiring to each ducted air handling unit. Air distributed by medium and low pressure ductwork. Outside air provided to the building by dedicated, roof mounted units. Two data rooms are conditioned by separate ductless split system units.

‍Construction of a new two story steel framed building which is an addition to the North Energy Plant for the installation of one 3,000 ton chiller, cooling tower, pumps and the installation of chilled water distribution piping. An extensive underground piping installation, as part of USC’s expansion of the chilled water distribution loop, was included in this project. The underground piping included a large, horizontal, directional bore under Assembly Street in downtown Columbia.

⛪ The Riverland Hills Church project is a new 1,200-seat, modern worship center featuring a large stage with tiered seating, new lobby & gathering space and associated classroom space.

We replaced two air-cooled chillers and associated piping. New piping was added in the main mechanical room along with updated controls and new chilled water pumps. We added three new air handlers in the mechanical room at the mezzanine of the worship center along with associated piping and ductwork. VAV’s were added off of one of these air handlers that serves the classrooms and other smaller spaces that required individual temperature control.
