Counseling may provide an opportunity to share personal information, to identify emotional issues, and to receive guidance and encouragement to make personal changes.
One of the toughest things for most of us to do is to stop ourselves in our tracks before we react to our teens' sassiness, snarkiness or attitude.
But we have to remember that teenagers are notorious for displacing their frustration and anger. And, because we're their "safe zone" and they know we'll love them no matter what, we'll always get the brunt of their most "unlovable" emotions. (Take it as a compliment...)
Before we snap, react, jump in and discipline them (which, let's be honest, is certainly necessary at times when our kids cross the line), we have to ask ourselves a few questions.
Quite often, there's a reason our kids are acting out. Sure, sometimes, it's just plain hormones that are getting the best of them, but quite often, there is an underlying reason that might require a little "digging" on our part.
A mom () shared this amazing advice with me and I asked her if I could share it. It's some of the best advice I've heard.
Before you react, H.A.L.T. ❤
It's been a while since I posted, so Hello and I hope you are well. Life is kind of like a roller coaster ride lately, but I seemed to have found my balance. Truthfully, I have figured out that watching too much national news, because of Covid and the negative political climate, tends to take me to a place that feels dark and heavy, and I feel out of balance. Using the time I save NOT watching news and other negative media has created more time for the things that make me feel good. Being in nature, and being observant of all things nature, fills me with positivity and hope and reminds me that the sun will always come up, the weather will always change, flowers and trees will always come out of dormancy in spring, clouds will always drift in the sky and the moon and stars are always night time companions. I can feel grounded just knowing I can totally believe in, and rely on, nature, the Universe, God. Every day, I give soooo much gratitude for all the amazing things in my life. Like everyone, I have moments when negativity creeps in. But I have learned that I have a choice how I manage it, and I choose to look to the sky to find the positivity and hope! I hope you will too! Have a positive day!!!
