Not spoiled a bit!
She is absolutely my shadow and my heart. My Scarlett girl!
I agree 100%
I don't recommend dog parks at all, it can turn even friendly social dogs into anxious overstimulated messes. Taking an already fearful dog or puppy there is a recipe for disaster. The reality is that as dogs become adults many become less social, and don't like that kind of crazy play anymore. Taking your dog on a walk using a 30 ft long line gives them lots of space, or even going to the dog park when it's empty to let them run around and have a sniffifari party would be amazing!
Thank you, Veronica Sanchez!

Something has to change!
From breeding to ownership and training. Education and ethics are needed with a hefty dose of common sense.
It terrifies me to think of what this woman was feeling as she was being attacked!
It angers me as to why these dogs were running free and able to attack her. Who failed them?
A SC woman lost her arms in a dog mauling. Here are tips to follow if a dog attacks you There are several things pedestrians and dog owners can do to avoid and prevent canine attacks.
Rider, a Great Dane in our service dog program came to spend a few hours with us Saturday to work on the Retrieve Task.
Finding the right item for him to take and hold has been a challenge for us and his handler. The usual dumbell was a hard nope. Some brief success with a wooden stick gave hope but he began to dismiss his handler.
It seems that Tony's idea of trying a paint roller just may be the winner. I received some great solid takes from Rider. Of course, I was using very high value treats. I was keeping him motivated and engaged.
We plan on more training with Rider at our place in the coming weeks.

Kharma and Xander Playtime!
65 lbs vs 4 lbs and Kharma adjusts perfectly! Watching her play with Khaos, our other shepherd is quite different with growling, snarling and rough jaw sparring.
I'm proud of all of our shepherds and how they have adjusted to Xander, his size difference and his puppy brat phase! 🤩
Xander and his new food bowl!
If you jerk your dog’s lead backwards hard enough and often enough, they will probably stop pulling.
If you smack your dog sharply on the nose when they jump up, they may quickly learn not to do it again.
Unfortunately, these examples show that, in the moment, punishing your dog can work.
The question is, why?
Quite simply, it’s because your dog is scared to behave that way because of how you will react or how much you might hurt them.
Punishment works on fear.
Not only does punishment often hurt your dog physically, but it damages them mentally too. It can irreparably damage the bond you share with them. If your dog fears what you might do, he will live in anxiety, desperately trying not to do anything ‘wrong’ so they can avoid being punished or hurt.
In the long term, punishment does not work and should never be an option. Yes, it may get you the result you want, but this is guaranteed to be at the detriment of your dog’s welfare and wellbeing along with your relationship.

Xander's first snow experience!
There is so much more to reward based training than you may see or even think about. And, why it works better than aversive, balanced methods.

Don’t shock him into it, teach him!
I was speaking with an acquaintance who was stumbling over words trying to explain his reasoning behind the use of a shock collar. As he stood there shifting from side to side it was quite apparent that he was aware that I was sitting on ready to rebuttal any non scientific based response and explain, once again, the basics of learning theory. He stood still, threw up his hands as if to concede and blurted out, “A shock collar is quicker!”
The only rebuttal I had floating around my head at the moment was, well bless your heart, brain surgery would be quicker without anesthesia too but I bet you would make time for it!
Dogs feel pain and have fears and anxieties as we do. It simply isn’t enough to bring a dog home, feed him, love him and think we have provided all he needs. He needs mental and physical stimulation that does not include screaming and chastising him. He needs adequate nutrition and Veterinarian care. He needs positive reward based training that teaches him and doesn’t shock him, pinch, poke or choke him.
If you don’t own a dog and can provide all that is needed in maintaining a happy, healthy, well trained, well loved pooch, get one, for you’ll find that no truer words were ever spoken or written than what is said of a dog, “Mans Best Friend.”
