Welcome to Masterpiece Monday! Today we are featuring ‘Green Eyes’ by local artist Clark Ellefson. The sculpture is located on Huger St. in front of Lewis+Clark, One Eared Cow Glass, and Stormwater Studios.
Clark Ellefson is owner of Lewis+Clark, a studio, workshop and gallery in Columbia's Vista, featuring handmade post-modernist lamps, robots, and other hand-crafted art created by Ellefson. He started his business in the 1980s when an arts business was not considered ideal for the area.
"Green Eyes" was commissioned by the Congaree Vista Guild . The sculpture was due to be unveiled as part of the 38th Annual Artista Vista in 2020. Due to the events postponement because of the coronavirus, the public got a chance to fist view the public art in a drive-by event.
What's your favorite public art in the Vista?

It's Masterpiece Monday! Commissioned with a generous donation from Agape Senior, the piece entitled “Moments” was created by artists Shaun Dargan Cassidy and Tom Stanley. Located on the 1600 block of Main Street, the stainless-steel sculpture is composed of an open box structure with an attic above and a tree root system below evoking memory and a collected lifetime of stories. These elements combine into a new sapling that grows up from these symbols of one’s life moments. Artist Shaun Cassidy explains “‘Moments’ was designed to use recognizable imagery to act as triggers to provoke associations with memory, decay, growth, the past and the future. The sculpture is intended to be both contemplative and aspirational and to provide a quiet moment of beautiful visual poetry on Main Street.”
What's your favorite Main Street public art?

Happy Masterpiece Monday!

This week's piece is Magnolia on Main by Maria DeFelice. This vibrant floral piece is located in the Main St. District and provides a little glimpse of spring all year round!

One Columbia is very proud to have helped to facilitate this mural in 2020. The project was made possible by the folks at Market on Main. It features a triptych of panels in three different styles, yet of a cohesive image. The message behind this piece is celebrating the differences of those in our community, and the beauty and strength when we come together, unified as one. It represents a hopeful future where we can celebrate those different than ourselves, and see the beauty in coming together!
