Thank you Kelly Bouthillet!
Thank you Senator Davis!
My nurse practitioners bill doesn’t expand their scope; they can only provide services within their training. But it allows them to do so without having to share a portion of their fee with physicians, which only imposes greater costs on patients without any corresponding benefit — or at least not with any benefit that is worth the extra cost.
Each month we’ll recognize a member of the SCNF Board of Trustees to highlight their accomplishments and contributions to the nursing profession. This month, meet Ex-Officio member and SCNA Representative Jada Quinn.
Dr. Quinn is a former trustee for SCNF and current President-elect of the SC Nurses Association. Dr. Quinn is a graduate of the University of SC, where she obtained Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees.
An experienced nurse of over 20 years, Dr. Quinn’s extensive background includes multiple specialties from the beside to advanced practice including academic and clinical nursing education.
Dr. Quinn holds ANCC certification in areas of Family Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Nurse Professional Development. She promotes advancement of the nursing profession and professional development of nurses. Dr. Quinn promotes advocacy for the underserved and those who served.
During her tenure as trustee with SCNF, Dr. Quinn chaired fundraising events to support the annual SCNF Nurses Care Scholarships, and she is a 2012 Palmetto Gold Award Recipient.
Currently Dr. Quinn works with the Columbia VA Healthcare System. Dr. Quinn continues to advocate for nurses and healthcare recipients throughout South Carolina.🍂🍁

South Carolina Nurses Association We are the voice of nursing in South Carolina
The South Carolina Nurse Foundation (SCNF) is honored to showcase a nurse leader. This year we are honoring Pierrene (Pi) Johnson. Pi was first elected to the Board of Trustees for SCNF in 1995, having served on various committees and as Vice President and President of the foundation. During her time on the Board of Trustees she served on the original Palmetto Gold Steering Committee, which recognizes nurses and student nurses across the state of South Carolina for excellence in practice, ensuring the future of the profession through scholarship initiatives. She has served as Co-Chair of Palmetto Gold and as Treasurer since the early 2000s. She has never missed a Palmetto Gold Gala and finds her work with Palmetto Gold to be the most rewarding experience of her service to the state.
Pi Johnson, a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and University of South Carolina nursing programs, her 38 years in healthcare allowed her to experience all the nursing profession has to offer. Having worked as a nursing administrator, case manager, and nursing informaticists, she has dedicated her life to the profession and supporting nurses across the state. She has worked diligently to highlight the very best that the nursing profession has to offer. She has left a legacy for those following her to strive for, embodying the excellence she wishes to promote in others to attain as Palmetto Gold recipients. Donate in honor of Pi today and help support SCNF’s mission to provide nurse and students nurses the opportunities to fulfill their dreams. https://fs30.formsite.com/SCNF/fynmvyhrdk/index.html
Congratulations to Prisma Laurens County Hospital on your Pathway to Excellence designation.
A message from the Palmetto Gold Steering Committee:
As we approach the 21st annual Palmetto Gold Award season, we want to take this opportunity to reconnect with our Alumni. We believe Palmetto Gold Award recipients should continue to be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the nursing profession.
In order to do this, we have created a brief form to collect updated contact information for our Palmetto Gold Alumni. We are asking for your help to reach out to past recipients from your facilities and encourage them to complete the form linked below. We would also greatly appreciate any additional information you have regarding Alumni from your facilities who have relocated, retired and those who may have passed.
The short form we are asking you to distribute to your past recipients can be found on the link. https://fs30.formsite.com/SCNF/wntwf8uhal/index
The Palmetto Gold Steering Committee has decided to return to a Spring Gala. This means that the next Palmetto Gold nomination period and Scholarship nomination period will both open in the Fall of 2023. The Palmetto Gold Gala will then be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Columbia Convention Center.
We are excited to spend the next few months connecting with alumni to learn about the work they are doing in the state, to promote networking opportunities and to encourage support through our nursing scholarship initiatives.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Stacy Collier at [email protected] or Savannah Tapler at [email protected] with questions regarding this process.

South Carolina APRNs - we need your help!
Senate Bill 553 was introduced in February, however it has gained little support, but much opposition. It currently sits in the Medical Affairs Committee awaiting a hearing.
The purpose of the legislation is to remove impediments to patient care and to continue to increase access to care the state. AHEC workforce data indicates that APRNs are maintaining and “saving” primary care in non-Metropolitan areas.
Bill S 553 would amend the current SC State Nurse Practice Act by removing practice agreements and the requirement of collaborating physicians.
SCNA and the Coalition for Access to Health Care are very grateful to the bill’s sponsor, Senator Tom Davis however we need more Senators to sponsor this bill.
Please write to them now asking for their support! Download the letter from the SCNA website: https://lnkd.in/gks3e-Zk
