In the state of South Carolina, a perpetual care cemetery by law is defined as one that includes in their name and services perpetual care responsibilities. Non-perpetual care cemeteries do not charge families a perpetual care fee, deed fee or documentation fee, which requires them to document burial spaces and locations.

Therefore, PRIVATELY OWNED AND CHURCH OWNED CEMETERIES are not legally, morally or ethically bound to keep records and or locations of where your loved one is buried. IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSBILITY OF THE FAMILY TO ERECT A TOMBSTONE OR MARKER as a permanent record of their burial location.

Where your loved one is buried is a sacred location. It is a place of honor and serenity. It behooves each one of us to provide a lasting memory and legacy to where their loved one has been buried. We pray this information helps you make the appropriate decisions to ensure a permanent place of solace and peace for you and your family by purchasing them a tombstone or a permanent marker.
