Installation details from Hanna Newman's "Pendulum."
These sculptures emerge from fragmented architectural casts that Newman takes in her home. When faced with what appears like snapshots of the domestic space, this fact makes the work's connection to memory almost overt.
Her newest work displays portions of a door frame with other mundane details like the light switch and air vent. These universally recognizable moments transport viewers to recollections. Perhaps of childhood or sickness? The points in life when you might find yourself lying on the bathroom floor staring into nothingness (a daydream).
This work does not employ bright colors but instead draws you into the unnoticed. As the blue sky passes over these forms via projection, there is a deep connection to the human experience.
"Pendulum" is on view through 10.10.24.
Please join us for the opening reception on 09.19.24 from 5-7PM. See the information in our upcoming event!
.sculpture and collaborator Christopher Ian Brooker are installing at Goodall Gallery!
Newman will be transforming the gallery from its usual well-lit, white-walled state to better showcase videos projected onto her three-dimensional works. 🌖 📸🪔
Mark your calendars for the opening reception Thursday, September 19th from 5-7PM! This event will also serve as a closing reception for local group show “Future Tense; Infinite Horizons” curated by ._w.o.n.d.e.r_._
Goodall Gallery is officially back from summer break and we hope
you'll join us for the closing reception of “Aiming for Freedom; Race, Reparations, and Right Paths” next Thursday, August 29th from 5-7 PM.
“Aiming for Freedom” is more than an art show; it's a series of ongoing actions between Melchor, participating artists, and a growing list of organizations such as New America, Humanity in Action, Lumina Foundation, Pendle Hill Quaker Retreat & Conference Center, SAEDi Collective, Goodall Gallery, and individuals like you!
“This project goes beyond the technicalities of repairing the past and moves toward a collective visioning of a more just future.”
Starting at 6PM at the closing reception, visitors will hear from K. Melchor with an interactive discussion led by local artist Dogon Krigga. This event will also unveil "Future Tense; Infinite Horizons," a selection of local art curated by ._w.o.n.d.e.r_._ (Wonder Collective) aka Tabitha Ott in the LOFT Gallery.✨🧑🏾🎨👩🏿🎨👩🏽🎨👨🏽🎨👨🏾🎨👨🏿🎨✨

We can't wait for installation day at the gallery tomorrow!
After re-grouping during the break, we are excited to announce our first end-of-summer exhibition, "Aiming for Freedom" curated by Wellesley College's post-doctoral fellow with AntiCarceral Co-laboratory, K. Melchor Quick Hall. This show will be on view from Friday, July 26-August 29, 2024.
"First launched at Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture in February 2024, this multi-media exhibition serves as a stage for public debate and discussion on race, reparations, and the right paths to making new and freer worlds. The show features art by sculptor Darrell Ann Gane-McCalla, painter Destiny Palmer, fiber artist Marla McLeod, and quilter Kimberly Love Radcliffe.
K. Melchor Quick Hall is a transnational, Black, feminist scholar and activist whose poetry, photography, and art curation work to expand public dialogues about the nature of freedom (especially Black women’s)."
This is a must see exhibition!
In case you missed the event rollout for our upcoming reception, here is a peek at Jordan Sheridan's remarkable exhibition "the quickening," on view now.

We’re doing it a little different this month with a closing reception, but guys we cannot say it enough, THIS WORK IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥
We invite and encourage you to stop by the gallery M-F 10AM-6PM to engage with the work individually or with a small group so that you can truly sit with these creations before the closing reception.
A good work of art is like a book 📖 It is meant to be looked at and taken in over time. It can be mulled over, turned on end, and interpreted in a variety of ways.
See what you are attracted to, what you’re curious about, and how long you think about the work after the show is in the rear view.
Goodall Gallery is waiting for you.
Hello, Columbia art community! 👋👋👋
My name is Brittany M. Watkins. I am a fellow working artist and the new Director of Goodall Gallery (August 2023). If you are reading this, you followed the gallery's ongoings at some point in the past, and I sincerely hope to inspire your interest and participation again!
Despite having laid dormant for a few years in the digital space, Goodall Gallery is very much alive; in fact, we are ON FIRE 🔥, ready for the excitement this new year holds.
In just four short months since joining Columbia College, in addition to regularly scheduled exhibitions, we have established and grown a modest following on Instagram and visited multiple local artist studios including Dogon Krigga, Tabitha Ott, Joel Cothran, and Stoi the Designer, among other things (TBA).

for weekly announcements, open calls, exhibition dates, local art events, and more!
Though we may not know each other now, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am invested in strengthening Goodall Gallery's presence and Columbia, South Carolina's place in the larger art scene, locally and beyond.
Welcome back students, faculty, and staff. Let's do this!!!
