Did you know that Juneteenth has its own flag?
Founder of the National Juneteenth Celebration Foundation, Ben Haith, created this flag in 1997 with the help of illustrator Lisa Jeanne Graf. Each symbol and color was carefully chosen by Haith and Graf to represent important aspects of this holiday.π
Have you ever wondered what the Juneteenth colors symbolize? The colors red, black, and green are each included in the Pan-African flag, which is commonly used as a symbol for Juneteenth. Each color has special meaning.
Today we celebrate freedom and honor Black American's contributions to American culture, history, and innovation. Happy Freedom Day!β€οΈ
BrightView team members celebrated Juneteenth this past weekend in Cincinnati (featuring Frisch's Big Boy). π
Tomorrow is Juneteenth; a day when we honor and celebrate the freedom of Black Americans in the United States.
Despite the Emancipation Proclamation being signed in 1863, it took a while for freedom to make its way to the most rebelling, western state of Texas. On June 19th, 1865, all slaves were finally declared free; However, it was not until December 1865 that all slaves were officially freed.
