State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel
State Representative for Ohio's 79th House District serving Columbiana and Carroll Counties
I added an additional piece of local artwork to my Columbus office this week! This beautiful Ohio piece was designed and created in Carroll County by Brown Frame 4-H Club member, Elizabeth Gamber. I love how this piece showcases agriculture and the beautiful landscape of the 79th House District! Thank you, and well done, Elizabeth!
The Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board invited me to attend the Ribbon Cutting and Open House of the new East Palestine Resiliency Center! The facility offers a wide range of mental health services, substance use treatment, counseling, and holistic therapies.
It was great to have Director Cornyn from the Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services in East Palestine as well as local partners and agencies who brought this center to life!
May you enjoy a safe and Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸
Through the hallway connecting the Riffe Center, where my office is located, to the Statehouse, you will find the Ohio House of Representatives High School Student Art Exhibition, where each district is represented by the talented young artists in our state. The artwork was recently changed for the year and now features Lydia’s work, “High School Sweethearts,” from Crestview Local School District! Congratulations!
As we wrap up the month of June and look forward to the upcoming Independence Day holiday, I encourage families to check out Ohio State Parks and consider camping under the stars this summer!
My family recently took a trip to Guilford Lake right here in Columbiana County to camp and enjoy an afternoon on the water!

We passed a Historic Capital Budget this week! It is such an honor to advocate for my district and I’m excited to see our community grow through the infusion of these state dollars!
Representative Stein and I introduced House Resolution 469 and it passed this week on the House floor. The recent Federal EPA rules will end all fossil fuel construction for the foreseeable future. House Resolution 469 is demanding that the federal government stop the madness! We must utilize all energy resources to ensure Ohioans aren’t left in the dark. Ohio and the PJM region must be able to provide reliable and affordable electricity for rate payers across our state without interference from an overreaching federal government!
Home sweet home! ❤️ Back in the district at 2am after a marathon Session Day! The Ohio House accomplished so much this week - passed a historic Capital Budget bill and dozens of other good policy. More details to come… but now, rest.
Happy Father’s Day! ❤️
I was so happy to welcome Makyah Newlun to the Ohio House this week! Makyah is your girls 145-pound Wrestling State Champion!
Makyah hails from Columbiana County and is a recent graduate of East Liverpool City Schools. This spring, here in Columbus, she etched her name in the history books by claiming the state title in a matter of minutes—a mere five minutes and twenty seconds in total. She won the final round in an impressive time of one minute and twenty-three seconds. She pinned all four of her opponents on her path to the first wrestling state title for East Liverpool High School in nearly seventy years! Makyah finished her remarkable season with a 49-2 record.
Makyah, your state title is a tremendous triumph and a source of great pride for our district. I am so excited to see the great things you will accomplish in the future as you further your education and athletic goals!
Let's celebrate the red, white, and blue today!🇺🇸
The American flag is a powerful, steadfast symbol of our nation's history, values, and unity.
Enjoyed this special celebration earlier this week!
This morning we broke ground on the new Hanover Township Fire/EMS Facility! Thank you to the trustees, commissioners, and community for supporting this endeavor. This building will aide our courageous first responders in keeping residents safe for years to come.
My daughters were so excited to join me today at the Ribbon Cutting of the much anticipated Wurster Memorial Splash Pad & Amphitheater in Leetonia! I was happy to see so many community members and leaders from throughout the entire county show up and support this wonderful addition to The Village of Leetonia. Columbiana County is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family - and this addition will bring families together to make memories all summer long! Thank you Mayor Kevin Siembida, village council, the Wurster Family, and all who played a role in making this project a success. Now go enjoy the fun! ☀️
Carroll County Farm Bureau Policy Team and community members came together this week to begin the process of crafting policies for the year that support our local farmers and the ag industry. This could be anything from land-use issues to new technology!

We honor the incredible sacrifices made by the Allied troops who fought for freedom 80 years ago today. ❤️
I was invited to attend the “Grand Curtain Opening” of the Seven Ranges Scout Reservation shower houses on Saturday afternoon in Kensington. I also had the opportunity to tour the 900+ acre facility as the staff and board members are anxiously awaiting the arrival of over 3,000 scouts this summer!
I attended Memorial Day ceremonies in Malvern and Carrollton this morning, both of which were attended by hundreds of patriotic Americans who gathered together to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to the veterans organizations who organized and made today’s services possible, and Keynote Speakers, Holly Lewis and Judge Smith for the impactful, touching remarks.

The land of the free, because of the brave. Remembering and honoring our fallen heroes on this Memorial Day. 🇺🇸
The Fraternal Order of Police Quaker Lodge 88 held its annual National Peace Officer’s Memorial Service Thursday afternoon in Salem. The event honored and paid tribute to 138 officers and K9s across the United States who selflessly gave their lives in the line of duty. Thank you to my friend, U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott and three of his courageous deputy marshals from Northeast Ohio for joining us. Always a touching and sentimental event thanks to those who organize each and every year. Back the Blue. 💙
This week the lawn of the Ohio Statehouse was filled with nearly 120 travel and tourism industry partners for Tourism Day!
I ran into Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine as well as Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik.
Plan your summer around the diverse and fun attractions throughout the great State of Ohio!
Ohio, The Heart of it All
Peaceful early morning.
Last week I attended the Direction Home of Eastern Ohio Annual Meeting where we heard from CEO Joe Rossi and Alex Lapso from the Ohio Department of Aging.
Did you know that May is recognized as Older Americans Month? In our state, we are empowering older Ohioans to remain healthy and actively contribute to their communities. Older Americans Month also honors the thousands of family caregivers, frontline workers, advocates, volunteers, and others who make up Ohio’s aging network.
If you or a loved one is in need of aging or disability services, contact my office and we can help connect you to local resources.

Was happy to welcome my friend and colleague Jay Edwards State Rep to the Mahoning Valley bright and early this morning at Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Lattes & Legislators! Representative Edwards serves as Chair of the House Finance committee and is a strong advocate for the Appalachian Region of our state. We discussed a variety of topics, including the state capital budget, education, workforce housing challenges, childcare, and the mental health crisis. Thank you, Chairman. It is a pleasure to serve with you!
Today was a very special day for students at Utica Shale Academy! The Administration planned a spectacular luncheon and celebration as the graduating students participated in Signing Day as they prepare to enter the workforce!
This is indeed a significant milestone in the students academic and professional journey, and I was thrilled to recognize them for their dedication and hard work. May this event mark the beginning of a rewarding and fulfilling journey for each individual, filled with countless opportunities for growth and achievement.
