As Chair of the Ohio Senate Workforce and Higher Education Committee, I recently had a productive visit to Wright State University with State Representative Tom Young.

On campus, we toured some of the latest technology being used to train our future nurses & medical professionals and had a very informative discussion with President Susan Edwards and Board of Trustees Chair, Tom Gunlock.

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with some of our districts strong leadership.

I started the day in The City of Brecksville Ohio, where I toured the city’s facilities with Mayor Kingston while discussing the importance of a strong relationship between local and state government.

I then spent time in Independence, OH at a business roundtable, where I was joined by State Senator Rob McColley, local businesses, Independence Mayor Kurtz, and other city officials. We discussed issues affecting businesses both in the district and statewide including energy policy, child care and the future of Ohio’s workforce.

To end the day, Senator McColley and I met with JumpStart Inc., a venture development firm focused on supporting and growing Ohio’s small businesses and with New Bridge Cleveland, a medical educational center that trains students for jobs necessary in hospitals across the region.

Today, as always, I stand with Israel and condemn the insidious, heinous and unprovoked acts of war and hatred perpetrated by Hamas terrorists. I call on all of my fellow Americans to do the same.

Today we remember all those who lost their lives on the morning of September 11, 2001. May we also pay tribute to the thousands of brave first responders who selflessly and tirelessly rushed into harm's way to save their fellow Americans.

Yesterday I visited the Maltz Museum in Beachwood and spent time touring with the Director and Development Officer. I was happy to secure substantial funding for Maltz to continue their education efforts to make sure future generations never forget about the Holocaust.

The museum is a great place to visit not only because of the Holocaust remembrance . It also features the history of the Jewish community’s contributions to great Cleveland and the country.

I have always enjoyed a great relationship with the cleveland Jewish community and look forward to a strong continued relationship.

Recently, I had a wonderful time welcoming Evelyn Megery and her family to Columbus. I was also able to meet the wonderful administrators of Mentor Public Schools, where Eveyn and her siblings attend.

Evelyn is an amazing student who makes Mentor proud every day with her accomplishments, which include being recognized as a Presidental Scholar. This recognition is only given to around 160 career- technical education students in the nation.

After I met with the Megery Family, I had a very informative discussion with Mentor Public’s Superintendent Heath, Lauren Tousignant, the administrative educator for marketing and business, and Director Glavan.

I look forward to continuing to work with Mentor Public Schools and to hearing about the successes Evelyn will continue to accomplish.

On this day, 78 years ago, the Allied Forces would take great measures to liberate the prisoners of Auschwitz.

Auschwitz was one of many locations that partook in unspeakable action against individuals because of their ethnicity and religion, which we must NEVER forget.

This morning I was proud to present commendations to Maia of Chagrin Falls, McKenzie of Cleveland and Nadija of Kirtland for their recognitions in the State Invention Convention Competition.

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. King was a trailblazer who fought for the very justice and equality that is promised by our constitution.

He fought for the black community to be seen as equal in a discouraging time for many. As he led marches, sit-ins and speeches, he made sure to emphasize that we should not judge an individual on their skin color, rather get to know their character, and that we as a nation should care and love all in our community. Dr. King’s legacy is one that shall not be forgotten.

Today, I am very proud of the Village of Middlefield and Manchester Farms Water System in Geauga County Ohio for their announced grant awards from Governor Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio Program. They were 2 out of 53 water systems to be awarded these grants.

With Middlefield’s $50,000 and Manchester Farm’s $24,120, they will be able to improve local water quality, map out potential lead pipes and reduce dangerous runoffs that harm surrounding environments.

Help join me in congratulating Middlefield Village and Manchester Farms Water System as they now have funds to continue their improvement to help protect their communities.
