The is asking for your help to spread the word. Our pasteurized human milk supply has fallen to critically-low levels in recent weeks; and is currently going to hospitals faster than milk donations coming in.

Breast milk donors are needed to support medically fragile infants. Just one ounce provides life-saving nutrition for three premature babies for a day.

Becoming a donor is an easy, three-step process:
➕ Brief phone interview
➕ Written health history
➕ Blood work (at no cost to donor)

What EXACTLY Are Muscle Knots? And Why Do They Happen? 28/11/2023

One of the most often asked questions I get is "what is a muscle knot?". My standard answer is "I don't know". This answer is not because I am uneducated but the truth is none of us really know. Many people have theories but research has yet to come up with a conclusive answer. This video talks about some of the theories.

Proper baby wearing techniques can save your back a lot of strain. This is a great local resource.

I get asked often about the bolster I use for the side positioned massage. At Aldi (specifically the Silver Dr. location) last week they had a very similar product for $12.99. It's firmer than a regular body pillow or "pregnancy pillow" and a whole lot cheaper.

Texting or email is probably better for pretty much this reason, lol

Some wise words from an experienced birth worker.

Grandma peeking on her newest grand baby getting skin to skin with dad.

Visitation is back to normal at all central Ohio hospitals, it seems. Birth can get back to being a family event in out-of-home locations. I have honestly missed this. Especially when family is such stellar support like this one.

ETTIQUETTE FOR ATTENDING BIRTH:
-First of all, the invitation should be extended. If you had to ask if you could come, or you insisted you should be allowed…you really aren’t invited. There’s no room for ego at birth, including from family members.

-If you haven’t been invited to the birthing room, then please for the love of all goodness on this earth DO NOT sit in the hospital lobby waiting. It’s the most worthless use of everyone’s time. You could be home making the family a meal, conserving energy to be of help later, running errands etc. Just don’t wait in the hospital lobby.

-If you have been invited, please remember this event is sacred to the parents and baby FIRST. Our job is to help facilitate bonding with parents not to be an interruption. Please don’t fight with parents that you have the right to hold the baby first {yes, I have seen this multiple times} and recognize that parents need sleep after birth - not unending visitors.

Someone asked how long I have been at my current location and how long I have been practicing. I did some math and it turns out I have been at my office for 10 years, practicing for 15 years and just shy of 15 years prenatal certified. I still feel like there is never a bad day at the office. Thank you to everyone that continues to support my business it is my honor to serve you.

‼️There is A LOT of confusion surrounding OSU’s current doula and visitor policy for laboring people.‼️ . . .
➡️Here’s the information you need to know and who to contact if you have ANY issues with your support. . . .
✅The OSU policy for Labor & Delivery is 2 support people AND a doula. Your 2 support people cannot switch out with other support people.
✅Make sure your doula’s name is written in your chart by your care provider.
✅Doulas should have a badge, show proof of training or certification. . . .
⁉️What’s The Confusion⁉️ . . .
➡️OSU’s website currently states ONE support person for Labor & Delivery.
Patient Experience (614) 293-8944 confirms the website does *NOT reflect their current policy. I asked if they could change it and they said they would try, but the website is run by another department. . . .
⁉️What Do I Do If My Doula Is Being Kept Out⁉️ . . .
✅If it’s during normal business hours call (614) 293-8944. Speak with Angela or Hattie with Patient Experience. Hand the phone to the person blocking doula support. . . .
✅If it’s after business hours call (614) 293-8000 and ask to speak to the Hospital Administrator on Duty. This person will have the updated policy in hand and is fully aware your doula is allowed in to support you. . . .
🙌You deserve support.
🙌Your doula should be by your side.
✨Happy Birthing!✨ . . .

We have been informed that we no longer have to follow the health department orders that have been in place since last year. What will change?
Not much. Most of this stuff we were doing before and will continue to do, like hand washing, sanitizing the treatment room and washing the sheets (who wasn't doing this?!). Masks have always been optional in the treatment room and that will continue to be the case, your choice. I will continue to mask for now as my clients are typically a more vulnerable population. If it is even slightly safer it's a small sacrifice on my part to do that. Having not gotten any colds or other illnesses this year has been really great, not going to lie this may be partly selfish.
I will keep watching for updates from the health department and the medical board. If something changes the office will adapt as needed.

The city has informed us they will be repaving the street next to the building, Webster Park. There will be no parking there starting today and estimated through 6/10/21. This may cause the front parking lot to be full. There is parking available on south bound High St most of the day, but do check the signs for restricted hours. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

The office is remaining open for limited appointments. The health department and the State Medical Board have given us very strict guidelines to follow. Every precaution is being taken to make your massage experience as safe as possible. If massage offices are ordered to close again we will of course comply. If I have an exposure or any symptoms of illness the office will follow a quarantine protocol. I ask that before making an appointment consider if you have had an exposure, are at high risk of exposure or are symptomatic. If it comes to a point where it seems we are no longer able to operate safely or the protocols put in place are failing in our industry things may change.

I wanted to do an update. September is here and school will be starting for my kids. It is not what I expected it to be. I am not sure yet how this will effect the office hours. The distance learning system they used in the spring was very flexible and would have worked very well for working parents. What we have been presented with for the fall is not. It requires the kids to be logged into zoom meetings at assigned times and requires heavy parent involvement for about 6+ hours a day. I know many families are struggling with how they will accomplish this and continue to work. Hopefully some flexible alternatives will be offered. I appreciate everyone's patience as we figure this out. I apologize for slow responses and being a little frazzled. Email and text are still the best way to reach me. I am at home more often and despite being in the middle of the city, often the Verizon signal is not strong enough for a call to get through and it will not alert me until I get to a stronger signal area that I have a voicemail.

At the office I continue to follow the health department's massage office guidelines for Covid safety. Anything that can be done to keep everyone safe and healthy I am happy to do.
