We’ll soon know if March is going to come in like a lamb and go out like a lion (or the reverse). Only time will tell! What I do know is that, even though Mother Nature can make it difficult, it’s finally time to start working in the garden. How are you preparing for springs arrival? Myself? The urns were filled with violas and p***y willow branches yesterday and I should say they look magnificent! 🌱

January is an introspective month for me. I look inward and take solace in the quiet, winter landscape. I try to redirect the urge to jump up to get things done and sit in silence. It’s as if the earth is at rest and I am meant to be, too. As much as I enjoy this quiet time to relax, I have to admit - I am ready for spring!

It is with a very heavy heart to share that my rock, my best friend, my angel, my beautiful Mother peacefully crossed over on October 27, 2022. I was holding her hand as she took her last breath. She no longer has to suffer. She may have lost this battle but she didn’t leave without a fight. I am forever grateful that I was able to be with her for this past year and most of all to be by her side when she decided it was time. She truly was the most influential person of my life. I love this woman so much and oh how she loved her customers at Urban Home & Garden as they adored her. Details about her arrangements will be forthcoming in the coming days.

“Indian Summer” is a phrase most North Americans use to describe an unusually warm and sunny patch of weather during autumn as we will experience beginning tomorrow. An Indian Summer is typically caused by a sharp shift in the jet stream from the south to the north. The warm weather may last anywhere from a few days to over a week before winter arrives for good. Take advantage of it! Finish that last little bit of yard work, take the boat out one more time, or have a picnic in the park. Soak in the sunshine because winter will not be far behind.

Each autumn, we eagerly await the moment when leaves splash the landscape with vibrant gold or saturated crimson.
