Join us this June in raising awareness for cataracts, a condition affecting over half of all Americans aged 80 or above according to the National Eye Institute (NEI).🌎Every action counts as we strive to educate and overcome this prevalent eye condition.👀

We are excited to share that our third-year resident, Bivek Wagle, MD, presented his research poster at the ARVO 2024 Annual Meeting! His work continues to exemplify our commitment to advancing ophthalmic research and clinical excellence.

Additionally, we were delighted to have him join us at our reception, where he connected with fellow researchers and alumni. Congratulations, Dr. Wagle, on your outstanding contribution to the field and your continued dedication to our community!

This weekend at the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery spring meeting Dr. Akella gave 2 podium presentations, was officially inducted into the Society, and won the 2024 Young ASOPRS Rising Star Award. Congratulations!!

Busting myths today! Did you know bats aren't blind? Their sensitive vision shines in conditions that we would think of as total darkness. No need for human-like vision when you can rock the night way better! 🦇

Did you know that April is Women's Eye Health Month? According to Prevent Blindness, women are more susceptible to vision problems like cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. The observance emphasizes the need for regular eye exams, particularly due to hormonal changes, pregnancy, and menopause, which can impact vision. Let's come together to prioritize eye health and spread awareness to ensure every woman has access to the care she needs for clear vision and a bright future! 👁️💪

Thank you to The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) and partners including the city of Columbus, Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium are partnering to collect these used but undamaged eclipse glasses for reuse. Through a partnership with Solar Eclipse USA the glasses collected from central Ohio will be sent to schools in Latin America and distributed to school-aged children so they can view the October 2024 Annular Eclipse. You can make a difference. 🌰 🕶️
