Please join us in congratulating Matt Mackey on his recent promotion to Project Manager at Miles-McClellan Construction, Inc. He started out as an intern in February of 2018, working part-time during the school year and full-time during the summers, and then joined the Miles-McClellan Construction team full-time as a Project Engineer in December of 2019. Matt was then promoted to APM at the start of 2022, where he continued to excel. Matt has always been proactive, eager to take on new challenges, and is an excellent representative of the Miles-McClellan Construction culture. Matt demonstrates our core values every day he comes to work and can effectively work with subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners from the early onset of a project and all the way through completion. Miles-McClellan Construction, Inc. supports its employees in all aspects of their lives and there are a few things we have top of mind every day. As noted in the following resources, "The construction industry has the highest number of suicides and the highest suicide rate of any industry. As such, it is an industry imperative for contractors, unions, project owners, and industry service providers to address suicide prevention in construction as a safety priority." We join in sharing this awareness during Suicide Prevention Week and ask that you review these resources and share them with your teams, friends, and family. https://cfma.org/suicideprevention https://cfma.org/articles/mental-health-and-wellbeing-in-the-construction-workplace

Earlier this month Miles-McClellan Construction, Inc. participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the PrimaryOne project with Columbus City Schools (CCS). This 2,240 SF renovation is not the first School-Based Health Center within CCS, but the center at Columbus International is the first to serve people of all ages. Dylan Burke is music to our ears! He recently graduated from the Ohio Construction Academy (OCA) as salutatorian of his class. OCA is a tuition-free high school that provides real-world training in the construction trades. Built upon a culture of safety and respect, OCA teaches both life skills and hands-on job training. The only school of its kind, OCA rewards hard-working students with a fast-track career pathway to a promising future. Dylan began apprenticing with Miles-McClellan Construction, Inc. in January of this year and has now accepted a full-time carpenter position with us to continue to gain on-the-job training. His first day was June 5 th and he is halfway through with his carpenter apprenticeship as he has already completed 2 of the 4-year training. Dylan was the first student to complete a work-based learning apprenticeship between OCA and a private construction firm, like Miles-McClellan Construction. We are thrilled to have him as part of our team! Owen Wyss, Miles-McClellan's CFO, is a board member of OCA.

One of Miles-McClellan Construction, Inc. newest internal committees is the Community IMMPact Committee where members are able to volunteer during work hours to complete projects that help both Miles-McClellan employees and members of our community, too. The team just completed its first project by constructing a new exterior cat shelter for Columbus Dog Connection. This was a multi-day effort that allowed 15 of our employees to put their skills to good use for a great cause.

Safety First – See Something. Do Something The images shown here represent the hard work of our team at the Wexner Inpatient Tower project run by Tim Wiley and Carlos Whiteside. As a way to live one of our core values – Safety First – See Something. Do Something. – we celebrate 1 or 2 project sites that have displayed excellent adherence to our safety standards. One of our second-quarter winners was the Inpatient Tower. In addition, last week we also received a phone call from Johel Woodliff (Safety Director) of Walsh Turner at the Wexner Medical Center Project and he informed us that Carlos Whiteside and his crew of Manny Saucedo, Wes Shriner, and James McClellan received the Crew of The Month award for the project. We are thrilled to share this additional good news. The criteria for this award are complete THA’s, good work ethic, feedback from Walsh Turner supervision, and overall performance. There are over 100 companies on this job and the finalists were narrowed down to three companies. Carlos and his crew will receive lunch, a gift card, and recognition in the Walsh Turner Newsletter and the Ohio State University newsletter.
