Secular Student Alliance at The Ohio State University
We meet on Thursdays at 7:30 PM in room 204 of the Thompson Library. We question culture, religion, psychics, authority, science – everything!
SSA at OSU is a student organization that is dedicated to promoting and practicing the open, rational, and scientific examination of the universe and our place in it. We also seek to demonstrate, by argument and action, that it is possible to lead a good and meaningful life without religion, and that ethics and morality can be meaningfully based on rational and humanistic ideals and values. We hol

Today I write to amplify the message being conveyed by the protests against George Floyd’s murder. While SSA is not directly tied to racial justice, we recognize that religious equality and secularism is not true equality if racial justice is ignored. The executive board of SSA at Ohio State stands in solidarity with all those who are marching to demand change and true justice for the hundreds of Black and Brown folks who have lost their lives at the hands of police brutality. We firmly stand with the Black community against systemic racism and continued oppression and discrimination.
I urge each one of you to contribute any amount to funds that directly help those who have been attacked and injured at the protests. To help locally, consider donating to the Columbus Freedom Fund to help release those who have been arrested and detained by police.

Today's meeting is in Thompson library room 204 at 7:30 pm. Given all the primaries occurring, it seems like a suitable time to talk politics! Just because you don't believe in a god doesn't mean you think the same as all other atheists, however we tend to share common beliefs and ideas. Are there then certain political philosophies that atheists "should" have? Do you think someone who is an atheist can run for office realistically in America?
Come to discuss later today!
Tomorrow's meeting will be in Thompson library room 204 at 7:30 pm and we will be discussing the role of religion and secular views in art and culture! Do you have any artists you enjoy who are openly secular or religious and how has their art been received? How have our cultural views and their expression in art changed over time with respect to religious and secular ideas? Come and join the convo.
Today's meeting is in Thompson library room 204 at 7:30 pm and we will be discussing morality! Religion shouldn't and doesn't have a monopoly on morality, if you're someone who identifies as non religious, how do you develop any set of morals? Are there any "objective" morals you follow? How do we solve really contentious issues? Hope to see you there
There will not be an SSA meeting this week. Next week our regularly scheduled meeting will occur on Darwin day, so be prepared for evolution fun!
Instead of a weekly meeting tomorrow, some of us will be seeing a Christian apologist, Frank Turek, give a talk called "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist". It is at 7:30 pm in the great hall meeting room of the union. We will gather at the door outside the room so we can sit together. There will be time afterwards for questions, so come and ask all your burning questions!
SSA meeting tonight in Thompson library room 204 at 7:30 pm where we will be discussing epistemology (how we determine how we know things). Come for the philosophy and stay for the people.
Tomorrow is the first SSA meeting in Thompson library room 204 at 7:30 pm. Feel free to come introduce yourself!

Fundamentalism on Trial - TheHumanist.com THE EMINENT University of Chicago historian Daniel Boorstin identified American humanism as the defining characteristic of the nation, which is the legacy of Thomas Jefferson and the entirely secular US Constitution. The real menace to the United States, Boorstin contended, is the emphasis on our di...

Don't forget to come celebrate Darwin Day with us tonight! We'll be watching "No Dinosaurs in Heaven" -- a documentary film about the struggle between evolutionary science and religious fundamentalism.

No Dinosaurs in Heaven The documentary weaves together two strands: an examination of the problem posed by creationists who earn science education degrees only to advocate anti-scientific beliefs in the classroom; and a visually stunning raft trip down the Grand Canyon, led by Dr. Eugenie Scott, that debunks creationist…
