We want to thank our friends at Rascal Unit for spending their Labor Day helping pets in the community. Thanks to their dedicated staff we were able to get 6 dogs and 18 cats off our waitlist. They all got spayed/neutered and vaccinated and are waking up healthier today.

Brutus stopped by to see us and you should too, ‘cuz it’s Yap-Yap-Yappy Hour ‘24!

⏳Like sands in the hourglass, so are the days of our SPAYS…

•2 Rascal trucks 🚑
•11 hours ⏱️
•21 volunteers
•38 wellness appointments 📅
• 56 grey hairs 😆
•104 CATS SPAYED/NEUTERED✂️
•Infinite love and support from our community!!💚

Not to brag buuuuuut the world of animal advocacy, this is the stuff of legends☺️ We’re proud of our talented, unshakable, brave, and compassionate volunteer crew, our partners at Rascal Unit, our board of directors, and we are immensely grateful for those who helped us pay the bill for THE MOST spay/neuters we’ve ever done in one day…🙌🏼

🌟Marcia Perry…a SOP supporter from the very beginning, is our “Leader of the Pack” sponsor. This means today she covered the cost of one truck (approximately 50 spay and neuters) as well as today’s wellness clinic, where 34 pets got vaccines and preventative meds. If you follow us then you’ve seen Mrs. Perry’s name many times in our gratitude posts. Marcia does so much more for us than we can even tell you (b/ the post would be waaay too long) so just know we probably owe her an organ or two. 😆

🎉Teri Bennett is our favorite birthday girl! Today is her birthday and instead of asking for presents, she’s giving them…to us! Teri sponsored half of our second s/n truck today AND she volunteered this morning to check in clients. All this amazingness makes her a ‘Something to Bark About” sponsor!! Happy Birthday, and thank you, Teri!

🙏🏽The remaining costs for the second truck came from you our friends, family, volunteers and followers. None of this would happen, without each of you and we truly love you from the bottoms of our hearts.💚

🔎 Check the Chip Day is here! 🔎
As veterinary professionals, you know that microchips can significantly increase the chances of being reunited with a lost pet. But a microchip is only effective if the registration info is UTD!

Help us recognize by making sure to remind your clients to update their microchip information, or taking a little bit of extra time to educate on the importance of microchipping. 🐶🐱

Our microchip lookup tool can assist in finding registration companies: https://hubs.li/Q02Lq6pB0

We've got exciting news & a big favor to ask!

First, the exciting news: Unit has the availability of a SECOND truck for our Aug 25th Spay/Neuter clinic. With this offer we have the chance to 'fix' 100 animals which would go such a loooong way in getting our waitlist back to a reasonable number. We already have one very generous sponsor for the first truck, and ~half of this second truck covered by another sponsor, so here's where the favor comes in...

Would you know someone (or someplace) that could sponsor the second half of the 2nd truck? Would you be willing to hold your own FB fundraiser over the next 2 weeks to help expand our reach for donations? Might you skip your morning Starbucks this week and donate towards our own fundraiser instead? No donation amount is too small, and even one 'share' may find it's way to someone willing and able to help.

It would be amazing to be able to spay/neuter 100 pets in one day...we've done it once before and WITH YOUR SUPPORT we can do it again! Please help us prevent unwanted litters by advocating, sharing, or donating to Save Ohio Pets today!

Here's to 'Spaying it Forward' in the month of August!

Happy Friday Friends!
We have 2 PUPdates to share with you…updates that are shining examples of your ‘karma dollars’ (donations) at work!!

NOLA was our furry client who needed surgery to fix her luxating patella. Dad worked hard to cover a portion of the cost, VCA Mill Run Animal Hospital gave us a generous non-profit discount, and y’all came through with the remaining $1200!!🙏🏽 Doc said Nola was the perfect patient, and she’s now home with dad (who will do PT at home)!
*Special thanks to Samantha Payton for her donation in honor for Frank.💙

DANA ELIZABETH is the ESA of a client. We were already covering her spay surgery, but SOS required a gastropexy surgery due to her size/breed. *This is where they suture the stomach to the abdominal wall prevent ‘bloat’ (stomach twisting/flipping) which is very common in large dogs and very often is fatal. This procedure was going to be an additional $400. Dana Elizabeth’s dad promised to come up with half the money and we used the donations from Anne Riesbeck-Allard’s Birthday fundraiser to cover the rest! Surgery went well and we are happy to report dad and Dane are getting the housing they deserve now that she is UTD on shots and spayed through SOP!

EVERY dollar you send our way is used to help animals and their families. We don’t take even a $1 of your hard earned money lightly, and we are forever grateful to all of you for always coming through for pets in need!

It’s probably seems odd to quote an ancient Greek philosopher on a page dedicated to helping pets stay healthy and at home, but relevant and profound words are, well, relevant and profound regardless of when they are said, so here goes…

“In the case of all things which have several parts and in which the totality is not, as it were, a mere heap, but the whole is something besides the parts…” ~Aristotle

The SOP board never forgets who we are. We never forget how we got where we are, or how we will get where we’re going. It’s the friends, the sponsors, the supporters. The volunteers, the business, the families we help, and it’s the community of animal advocates who choose to lift each other up because when one is strong, it strengthens the whole.

Our friends at Peace for Paws Ohio
sponsored our July clinic. They have been a vital part of the animal rescue community since 2011, and a valued partner to SOP for many years. It’s a BIG deal for a rescue to use valuable funds on anything other than their own organization. That’s not lost on us, and makes our hearts swell with appreciation, love and pride.

Peace for Paws primarily rescues animals from kill shelters in Ohio and surrounding states. Due to the high volume of urgent or “death row” dogs, the organization does not accept owner surrenders. Each animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, microchipped, heartworm negative and de-wormed prior to adoption (yay!). All animals are on heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative (woo hoo). Outside normal veterinary care, they also provide any additional veterinary care due to sickness or injury(awww yeah). The organization treats heartworm positive dogs and provides surgeries when necessary(💚).
Like SOP, they have relationships with Veterinary practices around Columbus, because this work is hard and we need each other.

PEACE is an amazing organization. They are a ‘part’ that helps make SOP more than a ‘mere heap’ 😆 and they are most certainly worthy of your support.

🩵💜Head to their page and give them a ‘Like’ or better yet, throw a few 💸 their way. Of course, if you’re interested in becoming a foster, OR looking for new furry family friend, check out their adoptable dogs at the link in the comments.

Thank you for your sponsorship!!

We crushed it today!

…the animals were adorable, our volunteers were amazing, and our friends at Peace for Paws Ohio , who not only sponsored this month’s clinic but also showed up and volunteered(!), jumped right in with both feet and rocked the check-in desk!

Because of these fine folks and families that care, 54 pets are a little bit healthier, and that makes us happier (and our community stronger). 🥰

*Check back later in the week to find out more about this month’s clinic and the amazing things THEY do to save the lives of animals in need. ☮️🐾

UPDATE: In less than 24 hours we have REACHED OUR GOAL!! Thank you to all that donated and shared!
💚
Hi! It’s your friendly neighborhood free pet wellness folks coming at you today with a special request.

This is Nola.

Nola is one of our clients who is loved very much by her dad (and by our volunteers). Unfortunately, Nola’s quality of life is not great right now due to a grade 4 luxating patella; she’s in pain and in desperate need of surgery.

As you know, SOP isn’t equipped to cover a surgery of this magnitude, so we’re reaching out to our wonderful and generous community!

While we don’t have a large bank account, we DO have an amazing network of animal advocates and caregivers so we set out to find the best price for surgery! We called multiple places for quotes and VCA Animal Hospitals (Mill Run)has offered to give dad a great discount!

Dad is really doing all he can to cover this on his own but it’s simply not achievable at this time. This doesn’t mean he’s not doing everything in his power to come up with as much as he can (we wouldn’t help otherwise 😊). He’s going to work some extra shifts, AND he’s working on getting a Care Credit card to as well. Based on dad’s commitment to help, SOP has offered to help raise the remaining $1,200 for surgery.

With that, we hope you’ll consider donating (any amount) to Nola‘s surgery on August 7th so we help ensure Nola and Dad stay together as one little happy and healthy family!
🙏🏽

Special thank you to VCA Mill Run AND YOU for your on-going support!

Dogs aren’t the only ones that will be stressed when the fireworks start…here’s some tips from our friends at Cats Only Veterinary Clinic!

Photos from SAVE Ohio Pets's post 07/02/2024

PLEASE take extra precautions to keep your pets safe and stress free this holiday!
Historically, this weekend has the highest incidence of lost dogs that end up at shelters across the country (or worse)! Don’t let your beloved pet be a statistic…follow these guidelines!

As June comes to a close, we want to give one last big shoutout to the team at COPS-Central Ohio Pit Savers, for being a $4000 ‘SPAY it Forward’ sponsor in June!
With their sponsorship and help from their volunteer crew, we were able to spay/neuter 44 pets at our June clinic!! We are proud & honored by our our partnership 🥰

*The COPS mission is close to our hearts because their ultimate goal, like ours, is to keep pets at home and out of shelters and rescues.
Check out a little bit more about the good work they do, and wide range of services they can provide:

They host monthly low-cost vaccination Clinics (HOPE) in partnership with Rascal Unit, provide financial assistance for emergency life-saving veterinary care, and spay and neuter surgeries. They share behavior resources, pet food, and training assistance.

They also run a shelter diversion program in conjunction with the Franklin County Dog Shelter
& Adoption Center (which provides redemption fee assistance for families to get their dogs back, assistance with annual licensing fees, and any other needs to
prevent a dog from being surrender to the shelter).

Whether you could use one of their their services or would simply like to find out more…visit their, FB page or website!

There are some days when we ask ourselves if we’re ever gonna catch a break. And then there are other days when ‘stuff’ is still hard, but the universe gives us a win or two (or three).
🐾
WIN #1: Today, we partnered with an organization whose core values match beautifully to ours… COPS-Central Ohio Pit Savers! COPS core mission is to keep pets with their people and out of FCDS by providing lifesaving assistance for dogs in need. COPS provided a $4000 sponsorship to cover today’s spay & neuter clinic (Yay!) where we provided surgeries to 13 dogs and 33 cats. *We’ll tell you more about the great work that COPS does, later in the week, (so keep checking back), but for today, we want them, and you to know how much we appreciate the work they are doing to support pets & families in our community, and for today’s collaboration! Thank you!
🐈‍⬛ 🦮 🤝

WIN #2: Today we were able to help sweet River. River is a newer client of SAVE, and a very special girl who melted our herts on her first visit. She has trouble using her back legs (due to an injury), and we recently were able to get a wheelchair donated from Hospets (Thank you!!) that just so happened to fit River perfectly (amazing), AND we were extra fortunate to have a volunteer who specializes in fitting dogs with Wheelchairs (what are the chances?), who spent 2 hours making sure River and mom knew how to use her fancy new wheels (insert tears of joy)!
🐕🦽

WIN #3: We still have the best volunteers this side of the Mississippi.
👨🏻 💚👩‍🦳

Seriously, these are the days and moments that keep us going. The days that remind us that we sometimes have to persevere through the hard stuff so we appreciate the special moments.

💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

Securing cat food these past couple years has been an on-going struggle, so when we get some extra, it’s like finding a pot of gold!

With that we want to send a quick shoutout to Ohio Wildlife Center for sharing their Walmart pet food donation with us!
Because of this partnership, we will be able to ensure all dogs and cats go home with food, from this Sunday’s Wellness/Spay/Neuter clinic!

We also want to thank volunteers PJ and Jeff as well as board members Susan & Stacey for all the hard work in getting it to our storage location!

You ALL rock!

Still just over here feelin’ the post goat yoga glow!

Photos from SAVE Ohio Pets's post 06/15/2024

People helping people.
Animals helping animals.

Truth be told, we are just as much in the business of helping people, as we are animals…the two are intrinsically connected, and our mission is to keep them together.

Maybe that’s why today’s yoga with goats event at Pawsitive Harmony Farms, LLC was the perfect partnership…people and animals coming together toward a common goal…oooor maybe we all just adore snuggles with baby goats! 😋
Either way, today’s event was a huge success!!

We had birthday celebrations, and bucket list items checked off. First time yogis, and seasoned practitioners. Folks coming from near and far. Family, and friends, giggles and smiles! It was the perfect start to our Saturday.

We want to thank all the volunteers today, especially Kristi Garlow, for setting this all in motion. Today’s host, Terri Montigny of Pawsitive Harmony Farms has been amazing to work with and went out of her way to make this event a success!

Finally, we want to thank all of you for attending, or sharing our posts, or telling others about our event. All-in-all we raised enough to cover the cost of one monthly wellness clinic, which is truly the only way we can continue to provide our free pet wellness services to those in need.

Anywho, today our hearts are full.

Thank you!

Y’all…it’s too darn hot, stressful, and scary for your pets at the arts fest!
Leave them at home please!

ANNUAL REMINDER: The Columbus Arts Festival is a great place for people but not for pets. Heat and crowded conditions make the Arts Festival a stressful and potentially unhealthy place for dogs and other animal companions. We love pets too and that's why we ask that you leave yours at home!

05/24/2024

Good morning, friends!

Please bring a mat, water, and leave your troubles in the city!

Day: 6/15/24
Time: 11 am
Cost: $35/ticket*
Location: Positive Harmony Farms, Marengo, Ohio

It’s hard to put into words just how much we love Brad & Mary Shaw.

It’s not because they volunteered with us for years or that Mary would take food or traps to clients in need or that Brad helped us break into one of our own storage rooms b/c we lost the key.

It’s not really because they encourage their local friends to attend fundraisers (even though they now live in the city of brotherly love).

It’s not because they share our posts to help us get more visibility.

It’s not even because they sponsored this month’s clinic in honor of Brad’s birthday (although that’s super cool).

*Don’t get us wrong, ALL these things are crazy amazing and we are extremely grateful for all of them….

The truth is, we love Brad & Mary because they believe in the underdog (and cat). They believe in breaking down barriers to keeping pets in their homes, they believe in the positive power that pets can have on the wellbeing of people, and they believe in the value of what we do. *Basically they think like us and we like that! 😆

Anywho…enough mushy stuff…Brad turned 60th this month so the entire SOP crew wishes him the HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS!!

THANK YOU for being our May ‘Wellness Warrior’ sponsor.
