Founder/Certified Sleep Consultant: Kristi Roberts I’m Kristi! o Stressed and dreading bedtime?
A sleep loving mommy on a mission to give parents tools and support so they can help their family get the sleep they need to achieve their dreams. I believe that sleep is a puzzle and when we align those pieces, we enable our children to master the skills necessary to establish healthy, lasting sleep habits. If you are tired of being tired, dreading bedtime, struggling to find the right sleep sche
In the should-be-famous words of author Katie DiCamillo… “Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift."
Reading to your child during their bedtime routine is a great way to have connection time before going to sleep for the night.
What are some of your child’s current favorites? Drop the titles below so we can make our list for the next time we go to the library
How they started….
Wyatt would not stay in his bed when he was put down at night. But a few moments later, he would come out of his room. In the middle of the night, he would leave his room and make his way into his parents' room.
Wyatt’s parents' primary goal was for him to stay in his room so he could get the sleep he needed.
This is what Dad had to say about our experience working together:
“This is the best money I have ever spent! For almost a year Wyatt refused to stay in bed and it would take 1-2 hours each night for him to fall asleep. He would wake up multiple times throughout the night and wake me up even though he didn't need anything. The first night that we implemented Wyatt's sleep rules he stayed in bed and slept through the night. 4 months after implementing Wyatt's sleep rules and he's still a super sleeper.”
Wondering if you should have a sleep routine for naps, too?
Absolutely!
Try having a consistent routine that you do for naps to help your child settle for sleep. A nap sleep routine can be an abbreviated version of the bedtime routine – a diaper change, sleep sack on, and in bed. It shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes.

Scared to transition to a school schedule after a long and lovely summer?
With a some preparation and consistency, you can feel confident that the schedules and routines you have in place will help your child to thrive at home and in the classroom.

Feeding OR sleep? Why not feed AND sleep?
When we look at improving your baby’s sleep, one of the puzzle pieces that we need to incorporate into the plan is feeding.
It’s World Breastfeeding Week and I want to ensure you that the common misconception that a breastfed baby cannot be sleep trained is completely false.
Your breastfed baby is capable of sleep, too!
Let’s work together to align the puzzle pieces of your baby’s sleep. Send me a message to inquire about what that would look like for your family 💫
Ready or not! August means back to school! Wondering how to help your child adjust to an earlier schedule? Plan to start now as it may take a few weeks.
Here are FIVE tips to prepare you for a school schedule.
1. **Start Early:** Introducing an earlier bedtime gradually can help your child ease into the new routine. Adjusting bedtimes in small increments over a week or two can make the shift feel natural and less abrupt. Well-rested children (and parents!) are better equipped to face the challenges of the school day.
2. **Stick to the Routine:** Create a soothing back-to-school sleep routine that lasts around 10-20 minutes. This winding-down period can include activities like reading a book, gentle stretching, or practicing deep breathing. Setting a timer can help keep the routine on track, and a visual chart can guide your child through the steps.
3. **Swap Screens for Outdoors:** The blue light emitted by screens can interfere with the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. To help your child prepare for sleep, turn off electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime. Instead, encourage outdoor activities during the lingering summer evenings. A dose of fresh air and physical activity can contribute to better sleep quality.
4. **Lead by Example.** Getting back into the rhythm of early mornings and back-to-school routines can be tiring for parents as well. Take this opportunity to model healthy sleep habits for the entire family. Prioritize relaxation and unplugging from screens well before bedtime.
5. **Embrace Consistency:** Children thrive on consistency and predictability. Even on weekends, aim to maintain a similar sleep schedule to reinforce the routine.
Children and babies THRIVE with consistency.
Routines, over time, become a consistent expectation in your child’s life. And, over time, this consistency builds trust, which in turn strengthens your child’s relationship with you and sleep.
As your child grows and develops, this consistency you’ve provided will allow them to become more independent and help them take ownership of their bedtime and their sleep skills and be excited about it!
Consistent bedtime routines can help empower your child when it comes to sleep. Working to establish and maintain those routines will be worth it, I promise.

👋🏼 Hi! I’m Kristi - certified sleep consultant and BIG adventurer! Let’s play a game to get to know each other a little better 👇🏻
You know the game 2 Truths and a Lie, right?? I’ll list 3 things below, and in the comments you tell me the 2 that are true and the one that’s a lie. I’ll DM you the answer! Then, you can tell me your 2 truths and a lie, too.
Let’s have some fun…here we go!
1️⃣ I worked on a whale watching boat my junior and senior year in college (summers only). That was fun!
2️⃣ I met my husband in graduate school at Miami (of Ohio) University studying neuroendocrinology studying the hormones that are involved in maternal and infant relationship building.
3️⃣ I've repelled into an inactive volcano in Nicaragua. INACTIVE…that’s why I’m still here.
Okay, friend! Comment below and I’ll be in your DMs soon!
I have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes! When I became a sleep consultant I didn’t realize all the skills I would also have to learn as a business owner. Add website development to the list!

It’s a vicious cycle! If you feel like you’re here, too, read this. ⬇️
Prioritizing your child’s sleep is important. So is making memories. And summer is the perfect time to do both of those things!
Here’s my advice: Plan accordingly.
Make sure your child is well-rested leading up to those memory-making days. You’ll all enjoy it that much more. Eventually all this memory-making will tire your child out.
After following the 80/20 rule and breaking the rules a bit, tighten things up to get back on track. Give your child an early bedtime to help catch up on lost sleep.
Rinse and repeat this cycle all summer long.
Prioritize sleep when your child needs it. Make memories and go have a great summer!
Tell me in the comments below - what is something you’re going to break the sleep rules for this summer with your little one?!
Here are my go to summer holiday travel tips!

Newborns can’t stay in a swaddle forever! Nor do they need to! Look for these signs to help you know when it is time for the swaddle to sleep sack transition. One or more of these signs will usually show up between 2-4 months.
**Rolling over:** If your baby is able to roll from back to stomach or vice versa, it’s a clear indication that they have developed enough strength and coordination to move freely. Rolling over while swaddled can be dangerous as swaddling restricts their movement and poses a safety hazard.
**Escape artist:** If your baby starts breaking free from the swaddle, it may be a sign that they are ready for a sleep sack. This indicates that they crave more freedom of movement and may no longer find comfort in the restricted wrapping.
**Increased alertness and curiosity:** If your baby has started showing more interest in their surroundings and appears eager to explore, it may be a sign that they need more room to move and observe. A sleep sack can provide the freedom they need while still offering a sense of security.
**Disrupted sleep patterns:** If your baby’s sleep patterns suddenly change, and they become more restless or wake up frequently during the night, it could be a sign that they are no longer comfortable being swaddled. The restricted movement may be inhibiting their ability to self-soothe and find a comfortable sleep position. They may need more room to stretch and explore their surroundings.

I love watching Fireworks and celebrating the 4th! But those loud noises can be challenging for little ones and sleep.
Check out my new blog post for more tips to help your little one sleep through fireworks.
https://littlesleepersbigdreamers.com/baby-sleep-and-fireworks/
Here are a few to get you started!
1. Plan ahead.
The best way to help your baby sleep through fireworks noises is to make sure they are already in a deep sleep.
Ideally, they should be sleeping for at least 40 min prior to the firework booms.
2. Muffle the Sounds.
Turn up the white noise volume slightly or add a fan or humidifier to the room.
Don't forget to keep the sound level under 50 dB!
One more option is to add a sound machine outside their bedroom door to help with unexpected noises.
3. Talk about it!
Talk about the noises your child may may hear during the day to help them feel prepared.
Stay calm, relaxed, and confident so your baby or child can feel those feelings, too.
4. Provide comfort.
If your child startles, pause. Listen to your child. Give them 1-5 minutes to see if they are truly waking or just making a noise and self-soothing.
If they are struggling, offer a bit of comfort and reassurance.
Head to the blog to lead more about how to help your baby sleep through fireworks this 4th of July!
https://littlesleepersbigdreamers.com/baby-sleep-and-fireworks/
It is no surprise that most fireworks-related injuries occur around the 4th of July. To help keep your family safe, avoid setting off your own fireworks and never allow your child to play with fireworks. Instead, consider attending a public display organized by trained professionals.
Here are a few tips to help your prepare your child for fireworks displays.
💥 Bring Ear Protection and keep your distance to protect their little ears.
💥 Have a Backup Plan if the noise and stimulation is too much for your child. You may want to watch the display in the car or head home early.
💥 Dress for sleep since most Firework displays don't start until after dark you will want to dress your child in PJs incase they fall asleep on the way home.
💥 Adjust their schedule to help them get a bit more sleep on the day of the show.

Have a chronic cat napper?
Mateo’s parents did too!
Mateo’s parents reached out when he was almost 6 months old. They were concerned that his short naps would start affecting his growth and development.
We discovered that part of the reason he was not able to nap well was because he was not able to self-soothe, resulting in 30-45 minute naps throughout the day. When they put him down at night, he was already asleep.
His parents were so concerned about him getting the “right” amount of sleep during the day and would sometimes try to help him soothe between cycles to ensure the right amount of sleep.
**The problem with this? _It wasn’t quality sleep._**
When we started working together, I could see that he actually wasn’t getting enough sleep, and the sleep was fragmented due to him waking between sleep cycles.
We adjusted his schedule, moved away from following his sleepy cues to prevent overtiredness (since he was now six months old, he wasn’t showing cues that he was tired even though he was actually quite tired!), and helped him learn some self-soothing skills. Ultimately, we were able to get him to yield solid, consistent naps which improved his night sleep, too.
Not only should we be focusing on the quantity of sleep during both daytime and nighttime sleep, but the _quality_ of sleep is most important for your child’s growth and development. And, these things go hand in hand.
Read more about the importance of naps in my blog post: “The Importance of Naps: A Guide to Better Sleep for Your Child”.
Car naps, when they’re NOT planned, can really throw a wrench in your day. 🔧
You have two options in this scenario:
🚗 Continue to drive around to extend the nap if possible
OR
🕜 if the nap is very short (10 minutes or so) wait about 45 minutes after getting home then try for another nap at home in the crib.
Do you have a little one who is notorious for falling asleep in the car? It may be time to evaluate their schedule.
What are some things do you do to keep avoid the car nap? Share in the comments!
