Celebrating the Paris Olympics, the Weekly Window has been taking note of fascinating Parisian windows. From a cellar workshop window reflected in a mirror, to a man silhouetted against a rose window at Notre Dame; to the frosted glass of a bakery, and the stained glass of Pere Lachaise Cemetery, the city never disappoints.
The Weekly Window has found something of a kindred spirit in photographer Andre Vicente Goncalves, whose "Windows of the World" project showcases exactly that. Check it out!

Imaginary windows are often as striking as real ones, if not more so; and a perfect example is Darius Green's artwork "Living Cells." Rail cars overgrown by wilderness, transformed by vaguely organic stained glass windows... How? By whom? To what purpose? Is this real, or a dream? The Weekly Window can only wonder...
International N**e Day & Skinny Dip Day are coming up this weekend, so the Naked House seemed to be a fitting Weekly Window. Rest assured that this 'naked' refers to plastic-free packaging rather than leaving your clothes at home, like the shirtless man in the second photo.
Weekly Window Wednesday!
Humans are sighted creatures - that is, for most of us, our primary sense is vision. As such, we delight in a broad spectrum of color, especially when captured in glass: light frozen in place. (We started adding color to glass almost as soon as we invented it!) And of course, for the best color and the most light, clean windows are the thing!
It's World Environment Day, so here we have a selection of windows that embrace, open onto, or are being returned to the environment around them.
The Weekly Window notes that today is National Alligator Day, and while "A" is most certainly for "Alligator," it's also for "A-frame" and "Angled Windows."
Did you know that May 15 is National Window Cleaner Day? It's easy to think window cleaning is a minor sort of task, a matter of Windex and paper towels; but like any professional trade there's a vast wealth of knowledge needed to do it well, from types of glass, cleaning products and tools, and aerial safety! Keeping windows clean is such an important and visible practice that toy company Lego has included window cleaners on no less than two of their building sets: the 2010 Grand Emporium and 2023 Natural History Museum - and of course, window cleaners are regularly employed to clean the real buildings at Legoland!
May 1st is Skyscraper Day, and the Weekly Window is celebrating these iconic buildings with several images from our archives, perhaps most notably a photo that shows an older, pre-air conditioning building, with windows that actually open!
All of the books the Weekly Window borrowed during Library Week have been read and are due to be returned, inspiring another look at books in windows...
While rainy weather is no friend to window cleaners, the riot of spring flowers they bring is a joy nonetheless!
It's Library Week, and the Wednesday Window reminds you that open books and open windows go to together like chocolate and peanut butter. Grab your favorite read and curl up somewhere sunny!
As March draws to a close, the Weekly Window continues to be enthralled with all things green and growing. And, somewhat perplexingly, chickens. ("Winthrop, be a dear and check the window algorithms." "Check the what now?" "Wait, they're Irish chickens - that window's in County Clare, so they must be left over from St. Patrick's Day.")
Spring is here! Throw open your windows and let the fresh air banish winter from your home - or if it's still too chilly, have us out to clean your windows, and "let the sun shine in!"
Anticipating St. Patrick's Day this Sunday, the Weekly Window is going green. Kermit the Frog said it best:
"Green's the color of spring,
And green can be cool and friendly-like;
And green can be big like an ocean,
Or important like a mountain,
Or tall like a tree"
Pritzker Architecture Prize-winner Riken Yamamoto designed this fire station for the city of Hiroshima, Japan to be all but completely transparent - the better to connect with and involve the surrounding community, a theme in his many designs. An open central atrium, designed for fire-fighter training, is surrounded by the glass walls (and doors, roofs, and sometimes floors) of offices, EMS centers, and other rooms, which are in turn surrounded by a ring of open-air walkways shielded by glass louvers. The window cleaning budget must be insane!
It is a fact that windows come in all shapes and sizes - though it is perhaps unusual to have such a wide variety on one side of a house!
"Winthrop! Sakes alive, you forgot to post the Weekly Window on Valentine's Day!"
"Such is the effect you have on me, m'dear: I was so dazzled by your beauty that I forgot all else but wooing you."
"You old flatterer, you still know how to tickle me pink."
Despite mild temperatures here in Central Ohio, the wintery pleasure of sipping hot tea in warm fuzzy socks should not to be forgotten!
The Weekly Window is pleased to announce that it's the Last Day of January - only 48 days until it is officially Spring!
It's Window Wednesday! One of the more unusual holidays we've come across recently is "Library 'Shelfie' Day," which is celebrated every fourth Wednesday of January by taking a selfie with your favorite books and bookshelves. This rare book, enclosed in glass, lit by and reflecting the skylights above would be a great setting for such a photo - but we couldn't get Wendolyn or Winthrop to pose!
Time for the Wednesday Window! As today is Popeye Day, we thought we'd share this salty sea dog - such a cute porthole peeping pupper!
Weekly Window Wednesday! Today is Houseplant Appreciation Day, and... well, as this feline 'picture of innocence' shows, we all celebrate such observances in our own way.
The Wednesday Window is back! And we're pleased to share this rosy dawn window by painter Kaoru Yamada as a symbol of the many wonderful possibilities awaiting us in the new year. Check back every Wednesday for interesting, beautiful, unique, and wild windows; and remember: Columbus Window Cleaning Company let's the sun shine in!
Weekly Window Wednesday notes that Valentine’s Day is a week away – have you ordered flowers for your beloved yet? Perhaps he or she is writing your name longingly on their window even now… in which case you should call us to clean the glass, the better to “let the sun shine in” on a romantic moment of music and dance. (Painting by Christen Dalsgaard, Illustration by Pascal Campion.)
Weekly Window Wednesday! Today marks the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, when life begins to awaken from its winter sleep in anticipation of warmer days ahead. Celebrated in ancient times as Imbolc, the medieval Catholic Church co-opted the old pagan celebration of hearth and home as Candlemas, the Feast of Candles.
Weekly Window Wednesday bids goodbye to the Chinese Year of the Tiger with this photo from 2003, in which police officer Martin Duffy comes face-to-face with Ming, one of several exotic animals kept illegally in an apartment in Harlem. (The NYPD felt it better to tranquilize the 350-pound cat from a window, rather than the front door - a rare instance when the hazardous work our window cleaners do every day is the safest option!) After being rescued, Ming lived happily at an animal sanctuary in Ohio.
Weekly Window Wednesday celebrates the grey days of winter with candles, lights, and other decorations on and around the windows. We're just two weeks past the solstice, but the days are noticeably longer!
Weekly Window Wednesday! Glass isn't always for windows: many a fancy desk or conference table has a glass top; and some tables are entirely of glass, such as this "Liquid Glacial Table" by Zaha Hahid.
