Reminder to the community of Compton and surrounding areas.

Be prepared for this storm.

Compton is a flood basin so there is a strong potential for flooding and due to the expected high winds there is a strong possibility for downed power lines and potential risk of fires.

Reminder, typical mass response times for disasters may average 72 hrs. For state or federal response. So prepare yourself for potential overwhelming of local 911 resources and potential delayed responses.

Prepare your medications and vital documents in a plastic sealable bag such as a zip lock bag or at minimum a plastic grocery style bag.

Have a minimum of 3 gallons of water, but more is better ( 3 gallons is suggested to last three days for 2 people)

Have fresh batteries and flashlights.

Due to the high expeted winds there will be a likelihood of downed power lines and if you notice these downed lines stay back and do not step into puddles of water near the downed power lines and always treat the power lines as being energized.

Develop a plan to shelter in place and or an evacuation plan for your family and those family and friends that are bed confined or with disabilities.

Have some food supplies that do not require cooking such as canned foods, granola bars, trail mix, meat jerkies etc.

Make sure your vehicles have sufficient fuel understanding power outages can effect gas stations ability to provide fuel.

Identify your local shelters ahead of time in the event of homeless that need shelter and or you may require shelter.

Charge your phones and auxiliary batteries as well and keep your charging cables close.

Know where your gas and power shut offs are located in the event you smell gas or need to turn off the power.

Have your keys to your home and car on you.

Discuss with your family your location and potential evacuation point in the event it is required.

If available, it is always best to wear highly visible clothing and or protective clothing.

Prepare and start your generators now to insure proper function and have a minimum of one gallon of fuel.

Gather your insurance documents and place in sealable bag, and have your medical insurance cards and Identification on you.

Stay safe and be smart.

I am you and you are me; together we are 1,
