5 years retired (well, from corp life)

5 years ago today was my last day from working with the Ahold Delhaize company, aka Food Lion to the Charlotte area. I had a 34 year (to the day) career with them. J and I had planned for almost 1 year my departure from the company but never said a word to anyone until 1 month prior to my leaving. It was a great career and one that I will always be grateful. However, it was time to leave and a decision that I’ve never regretted!

I had no plans other than to decompress from 34 years of the company consuming every second of my being. I didn’t know what I was going to do BUT I knew what I wasn’t going to do. I wasn’t going to sit at Biscuitville or McDonald’s in the morning with other old men with their pants pulled up under their armpits, drinking coffee and eating biscuits and talking about high blood pressure or diabetes. Thats not me!

Mixology had been a fun passion of mine for years. I went to bartending school in 2007 just for the fun of it. I enjoyed creating a look and a taste and enjoyed “playing around” with different concoctions.

Long story short, Two Shots on the Rocks, LLC was spoken into existence. What was a fun idea with the hopes of landing 1 or 2 events a month, has turned into an 11 person team doing 120 events in 2023. Never in my craziest/wildest dreams would have imagined what has happened in these last 5 years. We are very humbled and blessed with a small business that so many people have supported and continue to support. I’m often asked what is next. I honestly don’t know. Right now, we are just enjoying helping others celebrate whatever occasion they need our services.

5 years have literally FLOWN by for me. To all my former (good) coworkers, thank you for all you did for me during my career. To the (bad) coworkers, well I’m not friends with you on FB so never mind. 😂. To anyone who is considering retiring, there IS life after you leave!

And to everyone, I say CHEERS! There’s nothing like two shots on the rocks. 🥃🥃

Cash bar at NC weddings! No.

I’ve had a few clients over the last 4+ years ask me about doing cash bars at weddings. My answer is always the same. First and foremost, it is NOT legal in the state of NC to do a cash bar at a wedding. Then I get push back that another bartending service or wedding planner or venue owner says it’s fine. Below is from the attorneys office with the NC ABC Commission. I love to help my clients and want to do everything I can to make their day a great one, but I will always follow the law first.

P.S. like some other laws, I may not always understand the why behind it and sometimes, I may not necessarily agree with a law, but we will always follow the law.
