The people that pushed and oversaw this disastrous, never-ending project should be ashamed and embarrassed. Every one of them should be voted out of office. For some it is about aesthetic appearance. For others, it is about the appearance of power or importance. A pedestrian asked me about a month or so back why the courthouse was so large. I simply told them there were two reasons. First, they were spending his money. Secondly, so that they could look down on him. All of this project is a gross over-expenditure of money when there are other needs in the city and county that should have higher placement on the list of priorities.

Many of you will be traveling for July 4th either by plane or car. Please be patient regardless of your mode of travel. For those people driving, buckle your seat belt. Don’t speed. Leave room between you and the car in front of you. If you see emergency vehicle on the shoulder move over. In fact, if you see anyone on the shoulder you should move over. Stay alert. Don’t drive if you are fatigued and sleepy. Move over and let the fast drivers pass (those may be my future clients). DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE. I have always felt that judges’ races, along with many other local elected officials’ positions, should be nonpartisan. It should be about who is the best and most qualified candidate and not what party they are affiliated with. Many officials in office today switched parties because they thought they stood a better shot at winning as a Republican. Well, the local party is in a state of disarray. The leaders have no concern for who is the more qualified candidate. When you follow these peoples’ instructions and cast a vote based upon some handout you are given when you go to the poll to vote you are promoting cronyism and letting those people take away your own ability to make your own decision. If you blindly follow you will get more or what you’ve already got. Many times what you get by following the instructions, and this is not specific only to judicial candidates, are those more interested in keeping their jobs than they are in doing them. It’s time for change Cabarrus County. I am a registered Republican. However, when it comes to this race, I am pulling the trigger for the Democratic candidate, Judge Juanita Boger-Allen. I encourage you to do the same and help Re-Elect Judge Juanita Boger-Allen.

Bringing diversity: First and only Black judge returns to Cabarrus County Census data shows Cabarrus County is about 60% white, 20% Black, 12% Hispanic and the rest Asian or mixed race, but up until now all judges serving Cabarrus County were white.

At some point many of you may be getting an email from me regarding the upcoming election. I will most likely post a video as well before the date. Races such as Judges, Sheriffs, District Attorneys, Clerks and many more should not be decided on the basis of party affiliation. There is no place for politics in any of these positions. Partisan races many times result in less than qualified and less than the best candidates being elected for no other reason than just that - party affiliation. Voters this go round are being denied even the opportunity to select who the candidates will be in at least one race because the parties will and have selected the names of those who will appear on the ballot. It serves as an incentive that promotes cronyism with decisions being made by people who know nothing about the candidate. However, when it comes time to cast the vote this year I would ask that you take the time to find out about the candidates and their qualifications as opposed to voting for someone who has their name on a sample ballot with a check mark beside it being passed out at the poll by those that are trying to make your decision their own. Vote Juanita Boger-Allen.

Many of you will be watching the Super Bowl tomorrow between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Have fun cheering for your favorite team. However, as much fun as the Super Bowl can be, there will no doubt be those who make the decision to drive after drinking or doing drugs. Don’t be that person. There are way too many other options. Don’t drink or take drugs. If you must though, stay at home. Spend the night at the party host’s house. Get a taxi or Uber. Use a designated driver. Everybody you know would like for you to be around the next day. It’s not worth your life and it is definitely not worth the life or lives of another innocent driver or passenger that you could injure or kill as a result of an incredibly stupid decision.

A party is not worth the loss of a life. Believe me. The person on the other side of that door the Trooper is at would have done anything to get you home rather than they would plan your funeral.

The amount of time you save by driving like a fool is not worth someone’s life. For the youngsters, or even older drivers with the “it won’t happen to me” mindset, it can. Wow. Another discovery at the new courthouse. They have put a special light on the air hand dryer that projects the word DRY onto my hands so I will not be confused and think it is actually wetting my hands. With the price tag I would expect nothing less.

Many of you saw my last post about the $100,000,000.00 plus cost of the new Cabarrus County Courthouse and my excitement that they made a star (pic included). I am even more excited that they placed duplicates of my footprints near the security checkpoint. Perhaps as I find more hidde tributes I will be ecstatic.
