🔥🌧️🏠 Property damage can happen unexpectedly. And while you can’t always prevent such incidents, you can prevent further headaches by approaching the claim process appropriately.

With that in mind, here are some general post-property damage guidelines to file away:

1️⃣ Ensure safety, evacuate the premises if needed, and contact authorities for emergencies.

2️⃣ Notify your agent ASAP, and document all conversations with the carrier.

3️⃣ Take photos/videos of damage, and make a list of lost items and their estimated value.

4️⃣ Take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, like placing tarps over leaks or shutting off utilities. Keep receipts/invoices for temporary repairs, lodging, and supplementary costs.

5️⃣ Do not make permanent repairs or dispose of damaged items before consulting with your agent. Ensure cleaners/contractors know what can and cannot be removed from the property.

6️⃣ Be wary of individuals who may be taking advantage of a situation by sweeping into your neighborhood after a catastrophic event. And remember, never pay for services upfront.

We are excited to introduce to another member of our great team, Jackie Brady!

Jackie grew up in the Raleigh/Durham area and got married in 1980. They moved to Charlotte in 1982 due to a job relocation for her husband. She has worked in the insurance industry for 18 years. She is focused on the billing aspect of insurance as well as answering and directing incoming calls. She has two daughters and five grandchildren. Spending time with the grandchildren is her favorite thing to do! Jackie also enjoys walking, reading, Pinterest and is an avid NC State fan!

We would like to introduce you to another member of our team, Katharine Pope!

Katharine is originally from NJ, then Virginia. She has lived in NC for 17 years. She lived in Concord but moved to the Asheville area almost 2 years ago. She is married and has 3 children -18,16 and 8. Girl, Boy, Girl. She loves living in the mountains and loves exploring. Her favorite sport is soccer and she loves to watch both the Women’s and Men’s World Cup. She played varsity all 4 years of high school, through college and as an adult before starting a family. Her and her husband met through soccer, She has been in insurance and working for The Compass Agency for 5 years this summer.

Today we introduce you to another one of great team members, Knam Scruggs.

Meet Knam:

Knam’s passion in life is food. She hopes to share her love of cultures and community to others. She is a mini farm hobbyist. She spends her spare time outdoors with her animals and dogs. She loves gardening and reaping the rewards that are made by the works of my hands. She has a thrill for adventures and enjoy traveling to see the marvels of this world. Her family enjoys the peacefulness of a quiet stream and the splendor of a beautiful sunset. She loves back country camping in the mountains and soaking up the sun on the beach.
