Guns to Gardens provides the opportunity for gun owners to bring their unwanted firearms to a location where trained volunteers dismantle the firearms and later turn them into garden tools and works of art. Under state law, New Hampshire law enforcement officials are prohibited from destroying firearms which come into their possession and must either store the firearms, use them, or sell them back out on the market. Guns to Gardens provides an opportunity for Granite Staters to remove unwanted firearms from circulation. Last year’s NH Guns to Gardens program collected 31 unwanted firearms, including an AR-15.

Senator Shannon Chandley Speaks Out Against Bill That Would Force 300+ Businesses To Allow Employees To Bring Guns in Locked Cars
WATCH: Senator Chandley’s floor speech before the NH State Senate voted on party lines, 14-10, to pass HB 1336, forcing guns on company property, over the objections of everyone from the NH Retail Association and NH Hospital Association, to the Association for Justice, Easter Seals, Waypoint, and others. There are some places where guns should not be allowed. We need to protect the ability for these businesses and nonprofits to make critical decisions regarding workplace safety policies. The fact that HB 1336 provides blanket immunity for any economic loss, injury, or death resulting from it only further emphasizes the risk to public safety this bill poses.

Waiting periods between the purchase and delivery of a firearm can save lives, but Senators who feel more loyalty to the corporate gun lobby than their constituents voted 14-9 on party lines to kill the bill. We’ll keep speaking out for this important suicide prevention measure.

Senators Bill Bannon and Howard Pearl willing to put guns in hands of felons, domestic abusers, and others
NH Senators Bill Gannon and Howard Pearl vote against background checks because -- wait for it -- they don't know if their sons are felons, domestic abusers, or other prohibited persons and want to be able to give them a gun anyway. We have so many questions, but there is NO question that background checks save lives by keeping firearms out of the hands of those who should not have them. We need to close background check loopholes NOW! Background: This bill would have closed background check loopholes by requiring a background check for every firearm purchase and transfer -- with an exception for family and friends who know the other person is not prohibited from possessing or owning a firearm. Seems reasonable to us, but we also wouldn't put guns into the hands of people we don't know well enough to know whether they are prohibited gun owners. NH Republican Senators who voted against closing background check loopholes: Sen. Howard Pearl (Allenstown, Barnstead, Canterbury, Chichester, Deerfield, Epsom, Loudon, Northfield, Northwood, Nottingham, Pembroke, and Pittsfield) Sen. Timothy Lang (Ashland, Belmont, Campton, Center Harbor, Gilford, Holderness, Laconia, Meredith, New Hampton, Sanbornton, Sandwich, and Thornton) Sen. Jeb Bradley (Albany, Bartlett, Bean's Grant, Bean's Purchase, Brookfield, Chandler's Purchase, Chatham, Conway, Crawford's Purchase, Cutt's Grant, Eaton, Effingham, Freedom, Green's Grant, Hadley's Purchase, Hale's Location, Hart's Location, Jackson, Lincoln, Livermore, Madison, Martin's Location, Middleton, Milton, Moultonborough, Ossipee, Pinkham's Grant, Sargent's Purchase, Tamworth, Thompson and Meserve's Purchase, Tuftonboro, Wakefield, Waterville Valley, and Wolfeboro) Sen. James Gray (Alton, Farmington, Gilmanton, New Durham, Rochester, and Strafford) Sen. The NH Senate votes today on closing background check loopholes, creating a waiting period, and extreme risk protection orders. We are here to demand action to prevent gun violence! The New Hampshire Senate Moms Demand Action - NH GunSense NH Granite State Progress

Our press conference this morning introducing bills that would allow the temporary removal of firearms from people who have been involuntarily committed or are incompetent to stand trial (HB 1711) and establishing a voluntarily waiver of a right to purchase a firearm (HB 1050). Together, measures like these reduce gun violence and save lives!
