Another health coach threw up a post about how food can hurt you or heal you and I do belive that.
....But....
I don't believe there's a one size fits all plan. No cookie cutter bull s**t will work for everyone.
๐ฅ๐ชThere's a lot of nuance to this.
I am a master-level certified health coach with a focus on behavioral health and wellbeing. I believe in balance - especially while healing from disordered relationships to food and fitness. Ya know calling less and more nutrient dense foods good/bad or feeling like you have to "work off" your food or "earn" your food.
Dropped 120 lbs by eating for fuel AND fulfillment. Ended binge eating in less than a year, and stopped yoyoing after 2+ decades and it was due to moderation. Got incredible blood pannels ever since to prove my methods work without being extreme.
I don't believe in all-or-nothing behaviors.
I started a new group Over Scales: other health habits for happier humans. My mission is to ensure everyone feels safe, secure, healthy, and well living a life they love. It would be irresponsible to advocate for just one way of eating FOREVER. Especially when life had so many seasons of sunshine and storms.
Building a strong and supportive relationship with food opens up a whole new world.

What do you use for workout inspiration?
My workout today: was dedicated to my grandmother. My Nani.
This feels like A horse of a different color. In my experience when you search 'fitness motivation' or 'workout inspiration' all you see and hear are hard, sleek, muscular people grinding in the gym or side by side "before & after" pictures of weight loss.
๐ฅ๐The hard bodies don't work for me anymore.
I'm so fu*king against before and after pictures FOR ME, FOR YOU, AND FOR OUR BABIES (ESPECIALLY OUR BABIES) and the narrative they imply. ๐ผ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐.
What works better than ever for me: is honoring THIS DAY, THIS MOMENT. (It's the only one we can count on).
..Honoring energy levels.
..Honoring gratitude.
..Honoring peace & joy.
..Honoring time.

Today is my 6th year vsg anniversary. The choice that has forever changed my life. Yes, surgery for weight loss was a decision because my doctor told me I was too unhealthy to carry a baby at 293 lbs. That I would be too much of a high risk to be "serviced" at my own doctor's office. Yes, it started like every other time I tried to lose weight before (extreme changes) but it's not about the 120 lbs that was lost and the 180ยฐ lifestyle changes that I actively choose daily. It's not about recent decisions to step up my nutrition (as I work with the fears that lume over a potential hereditary autoimmune disease). It's not just about being the role model I've always wanted to be. It's not about future endeavors of wanting to cross a 5k finish line when I'm 80 or put on my pants with ease when I'm 90.

๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ. ๐๐น๐น ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ถ๐. The harsh, the hard. the disappointment, the heavy, the sad, the rage, the scary, the neutral, the excitement, the joy, the adrenalin, the happy, the elation & total fulfillment.
For me: it's about the whole kit & kapoodle, and being able to create comfort amongst things that we allow to be uncomfortable or just foreign and unfamiliar - growing through what we go through. WITH PROGRESS and PRACTICE because perfection or trying to be perfect never got me (or anyone else I love dearly) to feel amazing in their pursuits and push off that feel-good feeling until they achieve their goals.
This isn't GROUNDBREAKING or earth-shattering news. In my mind, it doesn't even feel that profound. But the ability to think and feel differently about yourself amidst 'life's experiences is next level, otherworldly, and has allowed such peace and freedom from doing less and being so much more.
I used used think that every time I spoke, I was drama. Too much. Not good enough.
Now I know what a gift it is to be able to articulate how I think and feel even imperfectly.
...That's what changed my life.
...I'm not talking about NOT doing healthful habits, I'm talking about choosing a perspective that doesn't diminish your life or detract from it and supports living audaciously in all your forms.
We're going through some heavy s**t with my grandmother. Tears upon tears release as we navigate some of her health challenges, and decode and decide who we choose to be in these very delicate times. For her and ourselves.
For me, this perspective of honoring the moment and who we are being is what matters most. Sure visible abs can matter to some, but for me, they are just not as important as the ability to move without pain, eat without vomiting, and live without needing to be close to a doctor's office.
Today as tears stream down my face, I'm both sad and elated. For who I am choose to be in this moment, what I will do for myself, and the knowing with every fiber of being that I have this day, and the ability to move and breathe and live this life I love fully.
And so that's what I choose as inspiration.

The key is in your habits, the system you create and the meanings that you assign to why you're actually doing it in the first place, and your ability to soothe your feelings better.

Only because you don't have the science behind motivational psychology and the simple steps to how habits become habits that we embody.
And let me let you in on a secret - it's not 21 days, 30 days, 90 days, or 300 days.

โจ๏ธIt's a formula that strengths over repetition, started by a cue!
The cue triggers a craving, which motivates a response, which provides a reward, which satisfies the craving and, ultimately, becomes associated with the cue.
...Decide the reward.
And reverse engineer. Deliberately choosing the cue that gets you to take action.
Behavioral Health Habits aren't just "I want to lose weight so I take action" There's science, emotional intelligence, and mind-body mapping that allow you to be in, stay in a,nd stop yoyoing.

When you no longer should on yourself; you wake up saying "I'm not overwhelmed with this." AND have more days like that!
We "should" on ourselves all the time. "I should do these things if I want ...xyz."
Eliminate "should, need and have to" and replace it with "Get To"
You get to focus on yourself & what works for you. Pick one thing at a time and start from there.

From not being able to walk up 6 steps w/out being winded to climbing 4k footers is a flex - putting trails over scales AND yourself first is the real deal!

Seek to understand without recklessly abandoning yourself. You just need to understand you.
Normalizing shifts and change and typical everyday stuff.
We decide WHAT IS WORTHY. If you've decided something is unworthy and now untrue, change that blueprint by changing that thought and deeming it worthy just by making a 1ยฐ shift. My bridge thought from "my content isn't sexy & i dont have anyhting worthy to share" is "I'm safe to show up just as I am." ๐คช
I'm showing up IN EVERY FORM & version of myself, regardless of who likes it and who doesn't. I don't want to be trapped by that fear anymore, I don't want those thoughts to have power over what I say or do anymore.

I'd add - they use energetic alignment, preserve their peace, advocate for themselves, take rest routinely, meet their needs, take radical responsibility, uphold boundaries, ask for support, try after they've failed and celebrate wildly.
