STARTER PACK: MY SADDLE PAD TWISTS/MOVES

As a kid, we learn that the round peg goes through the round hole, the square peg goes through the square hole, and so on…

As a teenager, we women learn that “curvy” jeans do not fit a “straight” hip profile, and I seriously have doubts that “mom jeans” fit anyone…

As an older adult, you realize that comfortable shoes that fit your feet are far more important than cute/expensive/sexy/crippling high heels that don’t…

THE MORAL TO THE STORY
Matching shape to shape is incredibly important for both comfort and functionality.

Stability in the saddle, saddle pad, half pad, girth, and even the rider comes from matching the shapes of these products to the horse as well as each other.

In my experience:

If your saddle pad shape doesn’t match the horse’s back shape or your half pad shape, the pad(s) MOVE.

If your saddle tree doesn’t match your horse’s shape, your saddle MOVES, no matter how much you flock it or adjust it.

If your girth doesn’t match your horse’s shape, the saddle MOVES and the horse is uncomfortable/girthy.

If the rider doesn’t fit the shape of the saddle (or vice versa), the rider MOVES and is unstable.

SHAPE IS EVERYTHING.

LOVE THIS!: “It is worth mentioning that this effect can be artificially created by cinching a saddle and pad down tight in the front.

The pad gets compressed in the front, but isn't tied down in the back, and so if you lunge a horse in this manner, you may get a "flapping" response with the saddle that may or may not indicate a fit issue.

It might just indicate you put a rectangular object on a moving horse and only tied it down in the front corners!

The point being, it is still possible to get this effect from a properly fitting saddle”

Here is yet another example of a saddle that is either:
1. Too wide in the gullet width
2. Too wide in the bar angle
3. Too curvy from front to back
4. Any combination of the above factors, from 1, to potentially all 3.

This saddle is set loosely on the horse's back, is not cinched down, and the horse is walking. It indicates a fit issue that needs to be addressed.

It is worth mentioning that this effect can be artificially created by cinching a saddle and pad down tight in the front.
